Have you seen Buffalos roster? I don’t think anyone is arguably buried behind anyone at this point
Uh, yes they are. When you have about 11 forwards drafted in the first two rounds of the last five drafts, seven of which are from the upper half of the first round, alongside still youngish players like Thompson or Mittelstadt, a 23 year old who isn't setting the world on fire in the AHL is not going to have much of a chance to get anywhere. Even if some of those prospects will fail - and it is pretty much a given that some of them won't make it, because no one hits at a 100% rate - they will all be given every chance to make it ahead of a someone like Cederqvist. Just the sheer number of high-end prospects at forward means that Cederqvist can't even get a big role in the AHL, so how is he supposed to make it to the NHL under such circumstances?

Buffalo's problem isn't that they are lacking talent. It's that their talent is for the most part too young to be consistently great yet, while they lack veterans that are skilled enough to carry the team or lead the talents the way they need to be led.

They have a ton of incoming highly valued prospects. Montreal has maybe six forward prospects total to compete with if he's got even a semblance of potential.

Cederqvist doesn't have a real high ceiling at all, but he's proved useful and physical in the AHL. MAYBE Cederqvist gets some cups of coffee as a high-energy 4th line mucker. But I can't see him really ever being an NHL regular.

The guy to watch here is Jandric. NCAA UDFA that we/Rochester signed last year. Has shown flashes. He COULD be a 6/7 NHL guy if developed right.

Being honest, we'd settle for consistently DECENT TO GOOD. Let's ignore "great" for a bit.

Habs don't need another 6/7 D-man ...Jandric

Not exactly lighting it up Rochester. Didn't have much leverage. He's a warm body at this point. There's a bunch of guys in Laval doing more than he did.

you know, you could’ve taken the 10 seconds you used to type this comment to google Buffalo’s roster and prospect pool and saved us all from your post.

Not exactly a roster that inspires confidence when they are routinely out of the playoffs

The problem with Cederqvist isnt that hes buried behinds forwards on Sabres roster. It's that he such a terrific player, he's buried behind the forwards on Rochesters roster.
See now this is more believable

So, AHL temporary Top-6er?

He's an AHL bottom-6er. At best I can see him becoming a 4th line mucker. Basically, it's a kid with good size so he'll get some chances. Europe bound unless he takes some good steps forward in development and surprises a lot of people.
