For a while there it looked like Dallas could end up with 10 guys at 50 or more on the season, but Harley would have to really go on a hot streak to pick up 15 more points in his final 16 games to hit 50 now. He was at 34 points with 26 games to go (53 point pace), but has only picked up 1 point in his last 10 games. Still an incredible output as the Stars lead the league in goals as of this post with 242 on the season. On top of that, they also have a guy in Stankoven who won't come anywhere near 50 this year, but is currently playing at a point per game pace (8GP, 5G, 3A). I'd have to say this is the most balanced Stars team I've seen in a very long time.

Montreal in 1975 with 9 guys over 60 points has got to be the record for most 60 point guys I would guess. 1990 Flames had 8 guys who had over 60 points, 9 over 50. I think the Flames were more balanced and probably more battle tested than the 1989 team and yet they lost despite all of their scoring balance. It started a really bad trend too for them.

By the way, I'd have gone to my grave before I'd have ever thought the 1992 Caps have (seemingly) the record for most guys with 50 points with 11. Even after that you had guys under 50 points, Todd Krygier, Sylvain Cote, John Druce. They still had an old Langway on that team.

I even thought the 1978 Cherry Bruins with that record of 11 guys with at least 20 goals would be up there with such a balanced attack but even they only got 10 guys with 50 points, not 11 like the 1992 Caps. The following year in 1993 they still had 9 guys with 50. But they finished 10th in goals for. That is just some serious balance without that true gamebreaker to help them get over the top.

1975 Sabres with 9 guys who had 50 points and 8 guys who had at least 60. Still no one beating the 1975 Habs with the 9 guys with 60 points.

76-77 Habs had 10. Yes, I did see games where Perreault played against Lafleur... I always thought Guy was the best player I've seen since Gretzky.

Always loved Guys speed and accuracy. The hair was his trademark on a generational like team. Also wasn’t any bad players back then, supply and demand.

Caps where second in the league that year behind NYR, but Lemieux carried Pittsburgh in that series. 17 points in six games (Missed one of the games). Had points on 17 of the 24 goals Pens scored in the games he played vs Wsh. Francis and Jagr only had 8 and 7 points.

As always Pens beat the Capitals on their way to the Cup. 3 of the times Capitals put up the hardest fight 92, 16 and 17. Also 09 was close with 4-3 Pens, but the final was harder for them vs Detroit.

They also stuggled a little with NYR where they won 4-2, but Lemieux only played two of the games then they swept Boston and Chicago.

Good lord.

Man, my head was hilarious "Jeez, this team was like...really good. Why didn't they do anything?

Oh yeah, Mario existed.
You can't blame the Caps' players for not producing in the playoffs. Ten of them scored at least 0.6 PPG (equal to 50 points over 82 games). But after missing the first game of the series (Washington won 3-1), Lemieux scored a ridiculous 17 points.

In other words - Lemieux scored 2.83 points per game in that series. The rest of the team, without Lemieux, scored 1.14 points per game.

As someone that wasn't born during that time...
I was surprised to see the 80s oilers not even making the cut on this, I figured there would have been 12+ players with gretz just banking pucks off people 😅

This underlines the inaccuracy of statements in line with ”the 80’s Oilers were the Harlem Globetrotters” in attempts to downplay Gretzky’s numbers.

That's what you call some goalscoring from the backend...

Washington also had Sylvain Cote with 11 goals, which means they had four out of the 27 defensemen who scored 10+ goals that season.
Check out the 1992-93 team. Fewer guys with 50 points, but three D with 20 goals or more.

Since Heiskanen just picked up an assist in the Stars/Hawks game, that puts Dallas officially at 9 guys reaching the 50 point mark. If Benn can pick up 5 more points over Dallas' final 5 games, they'll also end with 6 guys hitting the 60 point mark. Robertson will likely be the only one to break 70 this year, but could end up over 80:

Robertson - 77P
Pavelski - 64P
Hintz - 63P
Duchene - 62P
Johnston - 61P
Benn - 56P
Heiskanen - 51P
Marchment - 51P
Seguin - 50P

Also of note:
Harley - 41P
Stankoven - 13P in 18GP
