You can get a goalie through trade, you can have the forwards contribute by committee, but what you can't do in the NHL more often than not, is acquire a horse on defence, we have one in the making and our success depends on Rielly's development which is coming along nicely..

IMO, he is on the cusp of what #1 d-man does on a contender, but he needs to work on shot suppression(I've seen his numbers) and his penalty kill. When Babock gives him more PP time, I will assume he will get a few more goals/points, but he is right there in terms of production of what Doughty did in 2012.

Rielly in 2016: 9-27-36P; 23:13TOI; 1:49PP; 2:21SH

Keith in 2010: 14-55-69P; 26:35TOI; 2:48PP; 2:58SH
Chara in 2011: 14-30-44P; 25:26TOI; 3:08PP; 2:48SH
Doughty in 2012: 10-26-36P; 24:53TOI; 3:42PP; 2:17SH

When do you think Rielly can play 25Min/game effectively? 1 year, 2 years, 3 years+?

Did he not already handle some 25min+ games this year?

I know you're likely talking an average of 25min/game

But if he did handle some this year effectively then he should next year for sure.

it's the newer arguement. is a Doughty or Keith type player more valuable than a Weber or Pietrangelo?

Consensus has Mo Riles as a high end #2 D.

I'm in the group that thinks the NHL is more about skating and IQ and Mo has those traits.

Burke said they had him ranked #1 which has intrigued me since I saw that. Plus the weakness of the 2012 draft in terms of a franchise player Mo might be the best player from that draft when it's all said and done in 15 years.

He's pretty much is already getting 25:00 a night.

He averaged 24:48 after the Phaneuf trade a and 25:17 after the deadline.

Look at his numbers after Hunwick was injured for all the answers anyone should need. As well as his ice time after Dion was traded.

He played #1 Minutes very effectively after Hunwick went down with Marincin as his partner by the way. He is a number 1 D man....now.

He's already a very good #2.

I'd say in 3 o so years he'll be a top 10-15 D in the league.

He's a number 1 in the sense he's probably among the top 30 D's in the league. He needs to take another step or two before he is a #1 D you need to be a contender.

Next step is he needs to play in some big games and find success there. That usually helps bring along a player more than any grooming after a certain point. Success at a young age breeds more confidence and success.

Important question is, if he can hang around with the likes of crosby and defend against them.
If so, he is a number 1.

Reilly is developing fine so far. As time passes and better talent around him comes in, he ll be even that much better. Top 15 nhl d-man in his prime doesnt seem unreasonable. On a side note, who do you think he compares to? I see alot of people say Keith but I think more Letang.

When Burke was here I loved him. I thought he was a tough, no nonsense guy who was going to bring a winner here. Looking back, he really is just a loudmouth, arrogant sob who spews diarhea out of his mouth and hasn't the slightest clue of how the cap works. Thank God those days are done.

I think you will see both Morgan and Jake's numbers go up with the wealth of talent coming into the lineup.

Jake I think will be even better this coming season, and I predict this will be Morgan's breakthrough year because Babcock will likely give him more PP time and because his defensive game has really come a long way, especially to finish off the season.
