Even Strength

Rielly 271:55, 9pts, 1.99p/60
Subban 308:34, 10pts, 1.95p/60
Karlsson 320:45, 9pts, 1.68p/60

Power Play

Rielly 17:18, 2pts, 6.94p/60
Subban 69:17, 7pts, 6.06p/60
Karlsson 72:58, 4pts, 3.29p/60

and those are higher than normal rates for Karlsson and Subban, too.

IMO, Phaneuf is the shooter not the QB.

fair enough.

when i first debunked this myth, i compared him to all the other big shooters - i.e. the top PP goals and shots guys. He was one of the most accurate of all of them. A guy like Weber missed the net way, way more.

can't the quarterback also be the shooter?

Of course they can be. I also think it's important for the pp qb to be able to shoot the puck too and get it on net.
My view is that the pp qb has to be able to think the play 2 or 3 steps in advance to be a true pp qb. Can Dion think the game that far in advance or is he just a great shot at the point?

Not really.

Kaberle and McCabe are great example of QB and Shooter.
Like Football, the QB distributes to the scorers.
I think that's right but the qb can shoot too but that's not the prime distinction for the qb. Read and breaking down the defense is the qb's primary function however it needs to be done.

That a player can shoot goes without saying.

Analogy doesn't work in football, use the NBA.

You can have a distributing PG who also takes the shot when he has it.
I didn't create the term powerplay quaterback.
Though I do agree the powerplay point guard is a much better suited analogy.

I don't believe so.

Why not? What if the play at that moment calls for a shot to be taken?
Imo that's why it's nice to have 2 shooters on the point as it gives both options.
This is moot though as babs uses an umbrella formation.

But why can't the pp qb be THE shooter?
Do you think it takes away options? Limits the qb? Hinders the flow of the pp?
What specifically makes you feel the qb cannot be THE shooter?
