Look at how beautiful Carson's stick is!

I wish everyone played with actual wood.

Not the first time I've seen it but Gretzky after breaking Howe's goal record is awesome. He had already accomplished more than any player in the history of the game but I'm sure surpassing his idol was the #1 thing on his list or damn near close to it. Just pure happiness and elation.

Its like "I already won and did everything possible in the sport but now I've accomplished what was the unthinkable"

After reading some of his books, I think the reaction is really more about relief.

He was saying how every town he visited, the press would ask him about the record, and poor Gordie Howe had to follow him around for game after game until he broke it.

I'm not sure how many games it took but he was saying how it was getting a bit awkward. ;)

October 24, 1965 – The great Jean Beliveau in the penalty “box” after taking a crosschecking penalty at 48:51. 45 seconds into his penalty, the NY Rangers tied the game. The photo is taken just as the Rangers scored. Notice how there is no separation at all from the rowdy Rangers fans behind him (MSG). Great time capsule

This is the CN Tower under construction in Toronto, 1974.

Of interest from a hockey perspective:

I think that's the Mutual Street Arena - the home of the Leafs before Maple Leaf Gardens - near the top-left of the photo....with the slanted roof, in white, just east of St. Michael's Cathedral. The arena was demolished in 1989. You wouldn't be able to see that location now with all the condos and other new buildings.

Maple Leaf Gardens is just slightly out of view around the top-left corner of the photo.

Scotiabank Arena, built in the late '90s, is now located around the right edge of the photo, about a third or so from the top of the photo, where the postal delivery building is located in the photo.

The Royal York Hotel, one of the two Toronto bubble hotels, standing prominently on Front Street, just a bit north of where Scotiabank Arena is now.

And the HHOF is just east of the Royal York on Front Street, but difficult to see from this view.

I believe Scotiabank Arena is actually located in the building you see on the opposite side of the tracks from the Royal York, along the right edge of the photo. The arena was built in the old Canada Post building, which is what that building appears to be. Cool photo, thanks for sharing!
