Tribute Montreal Canadiens 100 Point Players

I was surprised to learn that the Habs only have 4 players in their long history to ever accomplish 100 points.

We have treated the amateur scouting/ development part of the organization so poorly over the last 30 years. It’s incredible how we have been so inept at drafting/developing scoring forwards.

Crazy when you think that Shutt and Mahovlich dont get 100 points without Lafleur, But Lafleur gets 100 point regardless.

Since the 86-87 season there has been 159 - 100 (or more) point seasons achieved by 73 players.

I looked at the 1st round picks from the Habs every year from 1981 to now and my jaw hit the floor. The ineptitude of this organization to barely even get fringe NHLers with first round picks is just staggering. Makes me feel like Slavkoski will fizzle into obscurity.

Habs went on to win 16-Cups over next-32 years. Pollock who Selke hired as scout away from being a baseball coach in NDG maintained the same 200ft game policy when named GM - the same policy which kept Lafleur from getting 1st line TOI under Scotty due to his lack of defensive awareness his first 3-seasons as a Hab

If Roy and Price had more offense to support them we’d have won multiple more cups. Insane that we went 25 years without having a top five pick and when it did come it was because of a one time lottery.

Love what the new regime is doing. Rebuilding from the ground up, trading for first rounders, playing younger players. They haven’t been perfect but they’ve done a lot of things right.

What it says the most to me is that Habs fans waited and suffered long enough, we deserve a franchise player like Bedard

There's been a few players right on the cusp of 100 points since naslund.... Guys like Muller, damphousse, and Turgeon.

But even those guys are from the 90s.... There's been nobody even close since the mid 90s.

I would be OK with 4 PPG players instead. having 4 guys that can put up 75+ a year would be a better strategy overall. Though With the way the cap situation is would that be more or less salary than a 100 point guy and a bunch of 60 pointers??? In all likelihood, much like Lafleur a top player will drag other players upwards.

But look at Toronto and Edmonton. Just because you have some super talented guys and lots of them doesn't mean you canjust win the cup. We need 35 point third line and a 20-25 point fourth liners. Need everyone to be a threat. If we had 65-70, 55-60, 33-40, 20-30 for our 4 lines might not be THE most talented guys, but we would have a great spread of guys that could all put the puck in the net. You win by having good talent through all the lines. Though I understand the game breaker mentality. A guy like Ovie who can just score from anywhere has its merits in a playoff run. Last guy we had like that was Kovy and that was 15 years ago.

Kovalev is the only 80 pt player that has played in front of Price during his career.
They flopped badly building a team out in front of him.
Naslund the last 100 pt player, almost 40 years ago.

Surprised we had only that many 100 point guys.

However NHL seasons used to be shorter, so guys like Beliveau, Geoffrion, Lach, Richard, Cournoyer, Moore etc. would've hit 100 points if they played 80+ game schedules.

Lemaire and Larouche were also very close and likely could've hit it if they didn't miss any games.
