Jake Voracek, who was a starring winger for the Flyers through the 2010s, announced his retirement after 15 NHL seasons but with concussion issues that had piled up.

He’s not counted on to be the most important player or two on the team. That softens the landing for declining players. Realistically, he’s maybe their ~8th/9th most important player on-ice.

Imagine if Giroux (who was and remains better than Benn) was still the best player or two on the Flyers instead of being surrounded by a new young core. Actually, no need to imagine! He would be. That’s why the Stars are contenders and the Flyers are an entirely palatable product.
