Kid's still a junior in HS? Damn I didn't think we drafted guys this young.

The caption on the photo I linked in January seems to have caused confusion, referring to him as a Jr.

The tone of the blog I just quoted, combined with his Sep/1995 birthday, seems to suggest he'll be starting BC this fall, if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: Eliteprospects, indeed, refers to him as a 14-15 BC player, but Nobles website calls him an 11th grader, so.... what do I know?

Also, it was noted earlier in this thread that he was 6-1, 160 with room to grow into his frame. He's listed now at 6-2, 195, so that's pretty good progress. Hopefully his success translates to Hockey East.

That b-day would suggest he should have already graduated. Yet another year to go? Is that prep school related?

No, I really am not. highschool prep hockey would be equivalent to Junior A in Canada.

Okay, maybe not you haha, but a common mistake, even among some hockey people. My prep school team was pretty mediocre and one of my defenseman ended up being teammates with Fayne at Providence. It was kinda funny in 2012 when pictures of them in college were still popping up on Facebook.

I have such a good feeling about this kid... BC people saying he's a bigger, more physical Johnny Gaudreau. If he continues developing and his game translates well he can turn into quite a gem.

The kid isn't even in college yet and he's already 6'2'' 195 lbs. Wonder where he'll top out too...? I say 6'4'' 210.

Let's see how he further develops in College but yeah....if he has another growth spurt in him, he'd be one of the Devils tallest(and biggest) prospects if he isn't already.

From The Boston College Hockey Blog (http://thebostoncollegehockeyblog.blogspot.com/):

The one question mark is the guy I think has the biggest upside, Noble and Greenough forward Miles Wood, who has yet to decide whether he wants to come to BC or go back to Nobles. If Miles does indeed come next season, he would certainly play first or second line left wing. He is one of those unique hybrid forwards. He is a big kid but man does he have a powerful stride. So, basically, the point of this post is to stress the amount of importance into getting Miles Wood to campus next fall (and another guy but that's for the next paragraph). He will eat the ISL up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner next season. If he comes to BC, he will be put in a situation where he will be given every opportunity to play power play, first line, kill penalties, etc. WE HAVE TO GET HIM TO CAMPUS.

Wow. Talk about coming out of nowhere. Man, would it be huge for this team to find a gem in this kid. Hope he decides to go to BC. Would love to see what he's capable of. He's become one of our more intriguing prospects pretty quickly.

Same here, and also with the Thomson pick. It seemed like they were picking names out of a hat. Looks like they did their homework in both cases.

Wood at least was a player with apparent offensive upside. Thomson was a goon playing throwaway minutes that had shown some flashes at the end of the season. I guess I understand taking a shot at a potential "next Lucic," but it hurts when the next 4 or 5 guys picked were all skilled forwards. Kevin Roy was the next player picked and he just put up a second PPG+ season as a sophomore at NEU.

Thompson pick was imo a very good pick. Kid gets pk time and plays 2nd 3rd line minutes. He's anything but a goon. Yes, he's big, bangs etc. drops the mitts if needed, but has some skill. I'm not calling him Lucic yet, but maybe it'll translate to the pro game.

I'm all for being optimistic with our prospects, even overly so, but let's have the kid play a college shift before a PR hype machine on here.

I 100% agree.

That being said there are a few things that make it really easy to get excited about him...

For starters when a program like Boston College and a coach like Jerry York make you a prized recruit that should at least be a cause to pay attention.

Second, if he chooses to go to BC this fall we'll know pretty quickly what kind of potential he has. Sure, he'll only be a freshman, but if he does attend BC this fall he may very well get a larger role than a usual BC freshman with all the departures that team will see this year. We will see that by late fall of this year which is only a few months away.

Third, the rise in status has also been impressive. In less than a year he went from skinny 160 lbs prep school kid that was a 4th rounder going to an Ivy school, Ho-hum prospect -- To a 6'2 - 195 lb kid being one of the top recruits in the country by one of the best programs...Without a doubt another reason to say "What do we have here"

Finally, having a Father who played in the NHL and a Grandfather Norman Wood who was captain at Harvard (1954) and also who coached Princeton from 1959 to 1964 shows an impeccable pedigree. This is a kid that grew up with hockey as a 2nd nature. This is a kid that should have an understanding of the game that is well beyond his peers. This is a kid that should have the type of hockey sense that almost insures an NHL player.

That is a lot to get excited about, even though we do need to wait see ;)

Nice summary. I would say I am hoping for the best but with cautious optimism.

I had really liked Hudson Fasching that year, from an article I read about his family situation, and wondered how he went in the late 4th after Miles Wood.

Yet again, I should trust the scouts and pros over my own fanboy scouting service

No, not when Conte and his good ole boy network are calling the shots.
Especially his Euro "scouts".
