Yes, and not unprecedented.

Fun fact: the 2007-08 Penguins were 28th in the league in corsi. They got somewhat better the following year, but still nothing impressive.

They went to the SCF in '08 and won the Cup in '09.

There's a legitimate argument that some teams require fewer touches to get great chances and therefore, don't build up as much quantity as teams that are still searching for goals.

And then you're ahead and everyone plays like shit when they're ahead.
Pittsburgh was bad and then during the season hired Dan Bylsma they became a top-5 or 10 5v5 team heading into the playoffs the season they won the cup. It helps when you have two of the best players of a generation but they did end up having to improve 5v5 to get over the hump.

I don’t think he’s a better option than Chytil if Chytil is game ready. But that’s a false binary… they can both be in and someone else can come out. I’m a Vesey fan, but what impact has he had in the playoffs this far? Rempe hurt Washington, literally, aside from opening the series scoring.
Come on.....Jimmy Vesey is actually a good player and the exact type of 4th liner you need to win cups. Rempe is a sideshow that was clearly overwhelmed yesterday and it doesn't help that the refs call everything on him. Deserved or not, that is a massive problem that is not going away.

Canes fans, must be something in the water that makes them very silly things. Also they really have no hockey knowledge.

I did not look at it as an attack. I just disagree with the "well this is just the way it is and we have to overcome it" stuff. Good teams should not have to overcome the other team(who is also a good team) and the refs when they are ahead or actually manage to score on their PPs. They should not be penalized for being better. It's wrong. Call the game as you see it on the ice, not if a team is winning or losing, and not if it's early or late in a game. I just find the officiating to be especially brutal so far in these playoffs. The Washington series was a train wreck and it continued last night. I'm not going to give bad officiating a pass.
Maybe we should bombard the league office with emails and social media posts about this crappy and unacceptable officiating. They are ruining a good thing. New fans will be driven away after seeing some of this crap

My point is that it’s not a binary Rempe or Chytil choice. Vesey is a good player. Better than Rempe in many ways. Rempe brings a physicality and swagger that no other player brings. Everyone plays “bigger”. It won’t surprise me if Wenn or Vesey sit instead of Rempe, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it WAS Rempe sitting. Or if we somehow don’t lose a game it won’t surprise me if the lineup stays the same…

I actually liked the way the Rangers played up until the last few minutes. Carolina had something around 15 shots on goal with only a few minutes left as one of the announcers remarked it could be a game where they hit a season low on shots on goal. And it seemed like that to me up to that point because we stifled their offense pretty good and they had several power plays. After they pulled Andersen they got a bunch of shots on Igor including Jarvis's goal. That was when things got a bit hairy. Until then they weren't getting much.

What it tells me is we can defend against them pretty well. Aho and some of their other guns had pretty quiet games. We dictated the way it was played for the balance of the game. Rangers had only two power plays also and they both turned into very quick goals. I would think that will concern the Canes a lot. I think the Canes had 5 power plays and I didn't come to much. I didn't like the officiating very much. Thought that those two quick strikes might even have had the refs thinking twice about calling anything against the Canes after that.
Would love to see Someone knock Ahos’ block off. Payback is a b***h

Tbh Rempe hasn't done anything but take penalties since game 1 against Washington. That's who you take out.
The one thing I am not sure about is taking Rempe out (yes he has taken penalties) but he brings an intangible to this team. They seem fearless with him there and it also puts the other team with their heads on a swivel. More playing time for Panarin

We present a major problem to the way Carolina likes to kill penalties.

They're extremely aggressive and collapse on puck carrier. They basically play 4v4, leave the guy in front of the net by himself, and just take the chance that you won't find him.

It usually works for them but here's what's different: the guy they're leaving alone is Chris Kreider. He's the best powerplay big man in the NHL and extremely skilled for a guy who plays that role. He also wins a f***ing ton of puck battles like he did on Trocheck's goal.

If you leave him alone, he's going to find Zibanejad and Trocheck with passes. If we kind of half get it towards him, he's going to possess it.
That’s surely part of it but there are also barely a handful of teams who possibly have the other 4 puck handlers as skilled and calm under pressure that our PP1 boasts.

@Machinehead - Is it against board rules to react? I've never seen anything that would indicate that, but perhaps the rules have changed.

Not that I encourage it on anything but the Devils or Islanders board, but f*** safe spaces and f*** people demanding safe spaces.

Our current PK is exactly why, in the future, I want our PP specialists cross-trained as PK specialists. The emergence of Kreider and Zib as two of the most dangerous PKers in the league shows how important that is.

Teams will be taking ques from us going forward. We should make sure we don't abandon the things we develop that work.

Listen, I understand the sentiment, but trust me, you want the safe spaces.

Half the shit that gets said in GDT's really shouldn't fly if we're being honest. Me, personally, and the rest of this team, we understand the emotions and we tend to let GDT's ride unless it's blatant harm-wishing.

That's why the sub-forums exist.

My advice is to not react to it, and not even read it. We don't need to get into a "yeah, but" war over what's said or done in GDT's. It's just going to lead to a crackdown on all sides.

If you wanna take your chances on the playoff forum, that's up to you. Another team's sub-forum? I wouldn't even open it.
