If there is one outstanding characertistic to Rossi's game it's his ability to retrieve the puck and distribute it to the open man with smart, low risk passes. He keeps offensive zone time alive or starts creating it with his ability to forecheck, win board battles, intercept pucks and then - that's the crucial part - dish it to the open man without a turnover. He plays a mean saucer pass (Ek fanning on one the other night), not sure where the "weak flub pass" argument is coming from. That's just trying to find a flaw where there is none.
Regarding his goal total: he is mostly taking shots near the crease, his shooting % is very high right now, probably not sustainable. He is getting into the soft and open spaces around the net and mostly scores from there and on deflections. 20 goals from him this year would be absolutely top notch, I fully expect a longer period of no goals coming up at some point in the season. And that will be absolutely OK.

Watching him work that puck through traffic last night was just fun. After seeing him play so timid last season, to see him play with what looks like very little fear this year is awesome. I mean he obviously doesn't play like a grinder, but he sure isn't afraid to go into the greazy areas. Still seems like he's got another gear he's got to get to as far as points, but it actually feels like he'll figure it out. Lot of times you see a player have a next level they need to get to where it all finally clicks, but you kind of know they're probably not going to get it. Rossi sure looks like it'll all fall into place at some point.
It's weird to have this many young players panning out and be flat out fun to watch. Really hope the next wave coming up behind these guys just continue the trend.

I love how at ~14s the video picks up a person in a Team Canada jersey wildly cheering the goal. That right there is a hockey appreciator, and I'm here for it.
Yup, but it's really hard to do at game speed. The ice is usually chewed up in front of the net, too.

I'd be hoping to draft a young #2 center at that spot. A guy who could probably hit 20 goals and 50-60 points as a two-way center in his prime. Hmm.
If it isn't clear, my answer is "probably not." It would require someone like Demidov to fall to that pick for me to actually do it, otherwise it's just taking on unnecessary risk for no substantial upside.

In a vacuum, no, but it depends on if there is a big faller. I'd think hard on it if any of my top 6 were there.

I could see it. He'll be 34 when his extension would kick in so, right in the wheelhouse.
Kap, JEE, Boldy, Faber, Brodin are all ready to win now and you guys want to trade Rossi (who we painstakingly developed for years) for a dart throw that might be as good as him in 3-5 years?
I don't get it either. A young and d responsible center who is finally producing. He is what we have needed for years. If yurov works as a center we are setup for a very long time. Rossi could turn into a stud and yurov a winger for all we know. We can fill holes when the cap space opens up too, why make trades.
We aren't winning next year, and a #12 pick in this draft wouldn't take 3-5 years, depending on who it is. I think Rossi has a limited ceiling, but hope i am wrong.
Trading him for futures is asinine. Trading him in a hockey trade still feels dumb, especially after we spent all year suppressing his value, but is at least somewhat defensible. If he got any PP1 time, he is at 50-60 points and carries a much different perception.
I disagree about next year. You don’t tank or rebuild with the top guys we have.
1. We most likely aren’t going to get sub-.900 goaltending again
2. We have some cap space (~5M?) to add depth scoring and some intriguing prospects knocking on the door.
3. Spurgeon won’t be out for 75% of the year.
4. Kaprizov’s extension is looming.
5. Last year everything that could’ve went wrong, went wrong and we couldn’t even get into the Top 10. We are tank-proof.
I heard a rumor from a guy that knows Sells, that Liepold uses his wine cellar for anti-tank weapons.
