It's all about where the players are trending and Monahan isnt trending in the right direction

His value isnt what you hope it is
Monahan was trending up in the playoffs and Tatar was trending down so... uh oh for his value. Completely ignores the implication that Tatar is more valuable despite being a year from UFA while Monahan is under team control, plays the more valuable position, etc.

Juulsen and the pick are added to make up for the age difference

The offer is fair and probably close to what hell get in a trade

How does Juulsen and the pick equal up when Juulsen and a 5th could probably get you a 2nd max? Realistically they aren't worth much and the age difference alone wouldn't be offest by Juulsen and a 5th, yet the Flames actually pay a 3rd for the privelige of... ? Yet you also ignore the contract situations, and seem like a troll given how terrible your justifications are

Monahan had a much better playoffs than Tatar. Tatar is not trending up either. He's almost 30. He had one good year in a defensively irresponsible Montreal system. The whole flames team was bad for the first 15 games or so, and even then Monahan was on pace for over 25 goals.

Monahan for Tatar would be a horrendous trade.

You think Claude Julien has a defensively irresponsible system?
They purposely allow some players to get away with not playing defence.

And no, Montreal's defence was not great. Apparently they have the best goalie in the world and a top defence, but still let in a lot of goals. Something must be lacking.

Where did the narrative of Monahan not showing up in crunch time come from? He has 40 career game winning goals which is 4th in franchise history. 2 of the 3 ahead of him are in the Hall of Fame and the 3rd one should be.
Pretty much ghosts in the playoffs when the series gets tough.

You don't have a clue what you're talking about if you think Claude Julien has a "defensively irresponsible system."

The only issue with the Canadiens goals against was the 12 games where Keith Kinkaid and Charlie Lindgren combined to surrender 44 goals.

Jake Allen surrendered 48 goals last year in double the games played.

Sean Monahan
3rd round pick

:flames
Tatar (re-signed)
Juulsen
5th round pick

This is horrible. Please tell me you are joking with this garbage. Sean is still first in goals scored in his draft class, a draft class that includes HF darlings MacKinnon, Barkov, Mantha, and Guentzel. Monahan would fetch much much more than this

Yeah, as a Kings fan, that’s a pretty brutal offer. If I’m LA though, I’m not trading Byfield/Turcotte/Vilardi for Monahan. A package of Kupari + Clague + Grundstrom + our two second round picks might be an interesting package, but that’s a lot of second-tier pieces for one premium piece. I wouldn’t be interested in trading any more than that though, mostly because Calgary is in-division (excluding next season).

Monahan - Kopitar - Kaliyev
Turcotte - Byfield - Vilardi

Better, but still not good enough. I'm one of the few Flames fans open to a futures package for Sean. LA is in our division as well so there's no way a Monahan trade with them doesn't include one of those C prospects. Should probably include another A asset like a 1st round pick as well.
