Maybe Holden can let us know why 2010 was a pretty weak season. His shooting percentage was poor, but so where many other things.

2007, 2008 +2009: Ponikarovsky was placed in a mostly semi-sheltered scoring role, similarly to Kane's line last season. Solid scoring and solid point production came out of it.
2010: In LA Ponikarovsky faces tougher competition, more along the lines of LLW last season. His production, sh% and possession stats all fall sharply. But, he is still in the black, and with a mere 5.3% he was still scoring higher than Thorburn or Glass.
2011: The next season Poni goes back to middle-to-low competition but starts getting pushed into the defensive zone to a comparable degree as Hainsey. While not facing strenuous competition his possession numbers stay clear in the positives and the highest for NJD. Infact, his Corsi/RelCorsi is the highest on the team for every year except LA (although Crosby wasn't too half bad :naughty: )

Summary
Like many as they start to age, Ponikarovsky was a strong offensive player who has changed his game and tailored it to a more two-way like role. Ponikarovsky typically has had good possession numbers. Looking at last season for players with positive competition levels and more d-zone starts than o-zone, Ponikarovsky has the 9th best Corsi (behind Bergeron, JThornton, Kesler, Pavelski, JStaal, Backes, Stoll, and Higgens) and 9th best RelCorsi (behind Bergeron, Perry, Thornton, Getzlaf, Pacioretty, Backlund, Cullen and Kesler). Meanwhile, GST sit in the very bottom (130s) of the list.

Summary
I would love to extend Ponikarovsky for a year or two, while we wait for hopefully one of Telegin, Lowry, Klingberg or Cormier to take the role. Maybe a 1-2 year contract for him and Antro each at 1.5 mil... We'll see!

1: Kane-Jokinen/x-Wheeler
2: Ladd-x-Little
3: Ponikarovsky-x-Wellwood/x

Thanks garret! We should obviously see how it works out, but if that 3rd line ends up being as good as I think it will be in a 2-way, shutdown role, then I could see re-upping Antro and Poni for similar numbers to what Poni is getting now.

That video is golden - hah! Antropov is a pretty funny guy. :D

Ah the odd couple. I am most looking forward to the possible rekindling of the poni - antro chemistry. Really do hope that Antropov can be ready for the season opener. *crosses fingers*

Well, Antro and Olli should be great friends... they both love Big Mac's

I have to side with my man Poni, though... Coca Cola and Burger King all the way baby!
