Its just crazy how he's never been a coordinator at any level but is now going to run a major program. The incoming recruiting violations will be epic.
It helped him in the sense that he was their best candidate that wasn't Tom Herman because he already had a good rapport with the players. There's no way they think he's their long-term solution, and they're only interested in the big fish.
Theres was never really a big scare that we'd lose him to them. Even aside from the recent success, his upcoming talent could be his best team(s) in his tenure.
In any case, this was the equivalent of "we lost out on Herman so.... we'll keep things the same until next year when we can try and nab a star coach again"
