Loudest Arena? Quietest Arena?

I really want to see a playoff game at the Saddledome, I feel like that place is electric. Same with Winnipeg for a white out.

Tampa is okay, but definitely not the loudest. And I haven't been to a playoff game at UBS, but the Coliseum was up there.

Went to a finals game at the Igloo between the Pens and Red Wings and it was loud, but not earth shaking.

Hello , do the broadcasts add fake crowd noises during broadcasts? I noticed that the live game feed crowd level does not match up with the highlights sound crowd and the sound on the replays

I don’t think they add fake noise. It’s more that they have microphones located in different places around the arena, and the broadcast crew is almost like a DJ in that they choose which mics to activate and how high to turn up the volume. So ultimately, the noise level is determined by the production crew even though the noise is all real.

Not sure if it’s just the mic setup but Tampa is surprisingly quiet for a team with so much success.

Best: Canes, Boston, Montreal, Rangers

MSG playoff game is on my bucket list, the atmosphere looks like a 10/10.
I watched most of the games the last 2 days and the atmosphere seems to be rocking from other arenas compared to MSG. As a NYR fan I would love for that building to get more noise going. But there's not a lot to cheer for, yet. The other games seems more back and forth with lots chances (whether shots hit the net or not) and a lot of physical contact (lot of uncalled interference as well). The pace of the games most likely helped the crowd get in and stay apart of the game.

They built UBS with a similar height to the Coliseum to get the same sound for hockey games. It was loud the other day from outside during the NYPD-FDNY game and you could hear it from the lawn during the Isles viewing party.

Happy to hear that, I gotta make it up there for a playoff game soon. Despite what many "experts" think on here, our fans are amazing and in person Isles crowds are almost always a great time.

They really don’t know what goes on here and only attribute it to TV. I’ve only refused to go to regular season games vs 2 teams because of how obnoxious they get when here. Neither of them are Toronto.

Uh... Brooklyn!
Rogers Place in Edmonton will be defeaning loud
They get up for the start, any goal, and Connor rushing down the ice, otherwise Rogers is pretty typical to a regular season game, not sure what it is, almost like they're so focused on watching the hockey than making noise, as someone else mentioned if the Oilers are getting pumped, the place is like a church

Edmonton
Edmonton can be the loudest in Canada when things are rocking. (06, Flames series, etc)

But even I can admit, past trauma causes our assholes to clench and to get a bit quieter when things are going sideways. That + the fans being very engaged in the actual hockey can make it seem a bit "quiet" at times

I’ve been to hundreds of NHL games in six cities. There is no piped in crowd noise.

If there were, it would be extremely obvious. There’s a difference between generic noise blaring over the speakers and an authentic crowd reaction to real-time events.
Agreed…

Crowd noise, like a team's play in the playoffs, is directly reflective of who fans are as people and how big their fandom is. (/s, obv)

Who cares if players play in an airport parking lot as long as they f***ing win?

I spent a ridiculous amount of money going to the Rangers game yesterday and came away thinking about how worth it it was.

Arena was filled with savages.

Welcome to being a Canucks fan and why it can be quiet at times, not last night though.

The Jets stadium always seems crazy to me.

As a Canes fan, I think PNC is extremely loud, especially in the playoffs.

Having visited a number of other NHL arenas, I think shape has a lot to do with the perceived differences. For example, having visited Tampa and Vegas, both teams have fans that are just as into the game as our local Canes fans, but the lower level especially is a much shallower angle and seems more stretched out. This leads to more airspace and maybe makes it sound less intense? PNC is much steeper in the lower level, which helps funnel the noise into a much more compact airspace.
