So the Yankees have not had a losing season since 1992. That makes 1993-2015 23 straight seasons of winning.

But then I realized that the Red Wings have an active streak of reaching the playoffs for 24 straight seasons. The first year of that streak didn't have a winning record when they won 34 games and lost 38. In 2012-13 and 2013-14, they finished 24-16-8 and 39-28-15 respectively. Would you say that the Red Wings are currently tied with the Yankees for having an active streak of finishing with a winning record (that would also make it 23 straight seasons for the Wings). Or did the Wings' streak end in 2012-13 when their record was 24-16-8, which translates to 24 wins and 24 losses? But of course, in hockey, position in the standings is not determined by your W/L record, it's by points. So I guess the 8 OT losses masked the real number of losses the Red Wings had in the shortened season.

No. The Yankees have a longer streak of a winning percentage over .500. If you have more games you don't win than you win, it's not a winning season.

The University of Syracuse basketball team's last losing season was in 1968/1969. They had a .500 record the next year and have not had a losing season since, closing in now on half a century. Pretty impressive Coach Jim Boeheim has never had a losing season in 39 years.

Well when you rarely leave the state of NY until mid January and play cupcakes its not that shocking.
