I was literally typing a message for in here when the horn started going again

Absolute pandemonium in the arena. In those 90 seconds I blew out whatever voice I had left. Only now slightly recovering. Thankful my interview isn't til Thursday, lol.

Also just saw this. Playoff KK is a different animal

Full credit to KK. He was major positive impact last night. Also, think about this:

- The hits were 37-32 last night.
- The only way a hit is registered is if you're hitting someone when you don't have the puck.
- The Hurricanes had the puck for 20 minutes to the Islanders 8.

So the Hurricanes got 32 hits in 8 minutes to the Islanders 37 in 20.

Wouldn't that mean the Canes had 32 in 40, Isles 37 in 52? Or is it only when when the other team has the puck as well?

Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but before the magic, the canes gave up three very poor goals. Burns took a little walk-about behind the net on the first goal, leaving an islander all alone in front for multiple jabs at Andersen. On the second, I think Andersen was surprised by the shot, not expecting it, so very deep in the crease. Third goal was also blown coverage in front, this time by Pesce.

Against the rags or teddy bears, we never would have come back like that. This is a very good team, but has some work to do…

I have the issue floating around my house somewhere, but in the hockey news from our Cup win, they mentioned that we set a record at the time of 134 decibels for Game 7 of the SCF. I just found at least one source online that mentioned that issue as I remembered it. I'm doubtful last night hit that no matter how loud it was.

It didn’t…. And my ears rang for more than a day after game 7. Like legit roaring and ringing.

I never believed the handheld spl meter they used to show on the Jumbotron, thinking it was loud in there, but it must have been reading high or something. They actually let me take my calibrated meter into games so I could check it…. Noise levels are different at various spots around the rink, but in general their meter was fairly accurate to what I was measuring from my seats…. we rarely got below 100db the whole game 7, and a whooooole lot higher for stretches. It was absolutely ridiculous. Last night was super cool and awesome, but it has been louder inside that building. I swear I had permanent damage after game 7…

Yeah, admittedly, I was at game 7 as well, so I'm childishly defending it. But sometimes the recent thing is so good we forget the good thing from 20 years ago. It was nuts for that game. Loudest game I've ever been to by far. And other parts of the atmosphere were was nuts too. As much as I'm impressed going to even regular season games these days and seeing crazy lines for everything with the full building (I went to game 1 on Saturday and had no interest in waiting in a line wrapping so long to get in the store) game 7 of the SCF was a different animal there too. Not being a local, I have to pick and choose my games and can't speak to all games, but people were almost trampled getting into the Eye after the game and they had to start closing the doors to keep the nutters from crushing everyone. And I still don't think I've seen the atmosphere of standing the whole game in quite the same way anywhere since.

Here's hoping we get to see that type of stuff again this year.

Greatest attended game ever for me and I agree sound was off the charts (FWIW: standing the entire game unique to America but Euro FB ("soccer") has that occur quite often). For me, that best moment of that game was when Williams was skating down the ice to score the empty net goal, knowing that we had just won the cup.

Aho just casually yeeting calamari is the best

A lot happened last night. The Kotkaniemi hit, Aho yeet, and Noesen bodyslam would each have been a rare emasculating moment for their victims. All three happened in one game which also featured a historic choke.

Everything I’m seeing from Isles fans today is that they’re completely done with this edition of the team, as well as Lou. Lots of talk about hitting the reset button, and not a lot of reasons being given for sticking with the group they have.

Those sentiments were already somewhat in motion anyway, but that was like the Halak/Caps series or the Wilson/Panarin game in terms of psychological impact.

I just want to know who Jarvis was chirping, because that looked like a pretty pointed "LETS f***ING GO, f*** YOU...."

Also, what the hell was Nelson thinking? Took at least 3 whacks on Guentzel's legs/arms before the goal and then a couple others after, and then had the nerve to try and fight him. I get it, you're frustrated you choked, but damn, that's a player coming completely unglued. Palmoil coming to his defense isn't exactly surprising, but that's literally the most fight that team showed all night, certainly since the end of the 1st.

At a certain point, this Canes team is in their head. We are now 10-2 against them in the playoffs over 2 and a half series. At this point, you know as soon as we get any momentum against them they're going to be thinking 'oh shit here we go again', like how Boston has been to us in the past.
