Maple Leafs-Islanders game preview

Toronto looking to sweep home-and-home series.

By: Mark Zwolinski Sports reporter, Published on Mon Dec 28 2015

AIR CANADA CENTRE

Puck Drop: 7 p.m.

TV: TSN4

Radio: Sportsnet 590 The Fan

Key Matchup: Nik Kulemin vs. Dion Phaneuf

The former Leaf, Kulemin scored the Islanders’ only goal Sunday in New York’s 3-1 loss after working his way in front of the net. Kulemin did a good job at that all night, and also saw some power-play time. The Leafs, especially Phaneuf, will have to pay more attention to Kulemin if he goes for the front of the net again

Three things to know:

1. The Isles have one of the best penalty kills in the NHL, and are on a streak where they have killed off 31 consecutive power-plays.

2. New York captain John Tavares will be looking to get back on the scoresheet in a big way. He was blanked Sunday at home against Toronto, and has just two assists in his last four games.

3. The Islanders got a 35-save night out of goalie Thomas Greiss, and will likely have him back in the net Tuesday in Toronto.

Up next: Wednesday, at Pittsburgh Penguins, 7 p.m., Sportsnet

Staying in and watching this one so cheering for a win.

I feel like were doing well and winning yet we never budge in the standings. This has to be the most parity shown in league history no?

I know, I feel like we gotten a bunch of points in the last 10-12 games, yet we are still second last in the East ...

T.O.
The slow start to the season was just what the doctor ordered, as it will hopefully keep us within range of a higher percentage lottery pick when all is said and done.

A part of this is because for a bit we played about a game or 2 more then other teams now we are behind a game or two.

I hope we win, but I dont think probabilities are very high that 1 team wins both games of a home and home.

Whatever it is

GO LEAFS GO!

Could be wrong but I think Babcock said Bernier for both back to backs and Reimer against Pittsburgh.

Interesting. Big game coming up for Reims then. Coming in cold against the Pens...

Let's see if old Berns can pick up some more points tonight.
