a bit hopeful here but this is what I'd like to see

JVR - Matthews - Kapanen
Johnsson - Kadri - Marner
Marleau - Nylander - Brown
Grundstrom - Eller - Hyman
Leivo
Martin

Rielly - Carlson
Gardiner - Hainsey
Dermott - Zaitsev
Borgman

Andersen
Sparks

PP1: JVR - Matthews - Nylander - Marner - Rielly
PP2: Kadri - Kapanen - Johnsson - Marleau - Dermott

PK forwards: Kapanen, Grundstrom, Eller, Brown, Hyman
PK defensemen: Carlson, Hainsey, Zaitsev, Dermott

FYI

Capitals sign centre Lars Eller to a five-year contract extension ...

WASHINGTON — The Capitals have signed centre Lars Eller to a $17.5 million, five-year contract extension. Eller will count $3.5 million against the salary cap through the 2022-23 season.

grandma's cellar
Hyman - Matthews - Kapanan
Marleau - Kadri - Marner
Komarov - Nylander - Brown
4th line

Hainsey - Rielly
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Borgman - Dermott

extra defenseman Polak! maybe Rosen

Basic rationale is that Hyman and Matthews will play together. To think otherwise with Babcock as coach is dreaming. Also, no way Kadri and Marner is split up. The forward pairs of the future.

Nylander gets his own line, as that was the plan, but he needs some heavy sheltering, give him Uncle Leo and Brown. Matthews needs a finisher on his wing, and Nylander was not the guy. Not this year.

Go head to head with the team's top two lines against the opposition top lines. Go figure out a traditional 3rd line, who will be the 4th line.

Defense, looking for same thing, more stability on the bottom two.

Until then ...

Go Leafs Go!

Does anyone else feel like Marleau may be playing himself out of a roster spot? 10 points in 20 plus games in 2018 and starting to look older by the shift.

When Liljegren is healthy (and not at the WJC) he is rotated out no more than other D.

great interview by Todd Haluska - sportnet commenting on Lily's skills and opportunity. He is next year's call up IF>>> he makes some strides forward. Still tracking on a great top 4 playmaking D

Those poster who actually think Tavares will sign with leafs are the same poster who thought Stamkos is coming to Toronto. Stop with that please

Tampa had a lot going for it. Great team, no state tax, solid management, beautiful weather.

Same can't be said about the Isles right now.

He can easily get paid more and still be on a better team (i.e. Vegas/Sharks). Or he can join the Leafs and turn the team into a powerhouse if money isn't everything.

Lol sign Carlson one of the league’s best producing PP defensemen and don’t even slot him on the top PP unit? Come on..

how much did we pay JVR?, Eller is a very good option for 4C I didn't realize he was UFA

Leafs depth chart for next season (based on current NHL experience and role):

Hyman...Matthews...Nylander
Marleau...Kadri...Marner
Martin...Gauthier...Brown
Johnsson...Aaltonen...Kapanen

Leivo/Grundstrom

Gardiner...Zaitsev
Rielly...Hainsey
Dermott...Carrick

Borgman

Andersen
McBackup

I take current nylander warts and all before our 3C and 4C becomes the goat and aaltonen, maybe one of them definitely not both

No because Who'd replace him and he's a veteran

I think 6 million for 5 years would be a fair deal
Eller signed with Washington again recently so he's not anymore unfortunately

huge pas on JVR even at $5M no thanks pp specialist, im hoping babcock can build lines where his most sheltered line doesn't need 65%+ offensive zone sheltering

this might be my favorite so far. Grundstrom would be a definite candidate for the 4RW spot. Id probably rather sign a 4C though im not a big fan of Aaltonen he is great for depth but as a permanent option with 0 depth at C behind him we could be left very short

:thumbu: Seems we think alike, swear any time we quote each other it's agreeing on something

Would love to see Grundstrom or Korshkov steal a spot but I'm betting on Leafs mgmt using their waiver eligibility to give them top minutes in the AHL instead.

And for Aaltonen, I'd like a more defensive PK-able C on the 4th line but think he's shown enough in the AHL that he deserves to be projected as 4th C next year by mgmt. would like to see them sign another guy like Fehr as a backup in Aaltonen doesn't work out, but not too good that it stops Aaltonen from getting a shot

Based on what we have in the system, and if we let the free agents walk. I would try and trade Gardiner for a Center, I would love to get RNH from Edmonton. I could see them resigning Bozak. Signing John Carlson would be awesome. I don't think the Goat is gonna make it.

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Kadri-Marner
Johnsson-XXX-Kapanen
Grundstrom-Altonen-Brown

Rielly-Carlson
Dermott-Hainsey
Borgman-Zaitsev

Rielly's p/60 on the PP is actually higher, he just doesn't get as many minutes

Doesn’t matter man, if you sign a guy like John Carlson, he instantly becomes your #1 defenseman and a staple on your top PP unit, booming clap titty from the point, excellent passer, great first pass. Rielly is an excellent skater and has a great first pass, but let’s not kid ourselves his slapshot is pathetic and non-existent. If we ever signed Carlson, which is a big long shot, he’d become our top PP defenseman, with Rielly and Gardiner on the 2nd unit.

well if you say so. I think we'll go with Rielly and Carlson as our 2 PP defensemen and continue with two 4-1 units
