A bit of a strange one to me. There hasn't been much progress shown. He's a middling AHL d-man that you can normally get on an AHL only contract.

He's only 23. He won't be anything special but no reason he can't be a 7th or 8thD and get some games in the next few years for cheap.

Hopefully we re-sign Duszak. He at least is a top 4 quality AHL defenseman.

I would have traded Hollowell personally, but I guess he can be a bottom 4 RD alongside Villeneuve next year. Duszak and a Biega replacement should be our top 4 RD. At least he has shown some signs of life as a prospect in the past few games, but I would have prioritized re-signing Rubins and Duszak long before him.

You need better depth if Hollowell is a 7/8 defenseman.

LD
Rielly
Muzzin
Sandin
(Dermott replacement) - Only if he can play LD on top of being a good RD.
---
Rubins
Kral
Dahlstrom replacement
Kivihalme replacement

RD
Brodie
Holl
Liljegren
Dermott replacement
---
Biega replacement
Duszak
Hollowell
Villeneuve

That should be the depth chart. Menell, Krys, and Kivihalme are competing to be our reserve defensemen for our run this year, and will likely be cut in the offseason. We may decide to trade any or all of them and add some better depth guys who can also upgrade Dahlstrom/Biega as NHL depth options.

I'm not sure I see the upside here with Mac. We're gonna have Kral, Rubins, Hoefenmayer, Villeneuve and likely Kokkonen with the Marlies next year.

How about Rubins?

I really enjoyed watching him play in the few games he got when called up.

All of our non-Miettinen Finns, except Rindell who is not that great, re-signed in the Liiga for next year.

None of the expiring AHL contracts on defense are likely going to be re-signed either. We will likely bring in a new crop, and I think all of them will start with the Growlers. I think the Marlies are going to have 8 guys on SPC's so they have a solid foundational group, and then they will turn to guys on AHL contracts to be injury call ups. Hoefenmayer's defensive game did not progress well enough to warrant bringing him back, unless he wants to be in the same role he is in right now. Same goes for Hellickson and the others.

There is room for Hollowell next year, but only really because there is nobody better. There are a few somewhat interesting RD NCAA UFA's, but nothing that really knocks your socks off like what you can get up front.

LMAOO I forget who it was who told me there was no way in hell the Leafs would extend him. He’s 23, RHD, has room to grow. Pretty much a no brainer to resign him.

I think there’s 6rfa D on the Marlies and 2ufa.
Hasn’t progressed much, gets another year to give it a go.
Outside chance of a career as an enforcer.

I'm assuming Koster will be returning to MIN next year as well.

lmao he’s 5’9… if he makes the NHL it’ll be as a power play specialist

Definitely.

I think he is a 4 year defenseman, and next year will be probably the first time he will be a true go-to defenseman. Probably #1 LD if LaCombe is signed by ANA. I think Johnson is getting signed by BUF after this year.

2019-2020: .34 PPG, -9
2020-2021: .37 PPG, -5
2021-2022: .61 PPG, +4

Seems to be some progress this season although I admit I havnt seen many games.

I assume he's just a face in the organization that they know and like and want to keep around, with no real implication on his NHL worthiness. Remember when they had him spend Christmas with the big boys?

Keep in mind that he is an offensive defenseman and for an offensive defenseman, that is not really good production.

His defensive game is still really iffy. Duszak is a much better, albeit slightly older, RD for the Marlies at both ends of the ice.

If Hollowell does not put up a PPG next year, or somehow takes massive strides in his defensive game, he is pretty much just going to be AHL depth going forward.
