That’s pretty much a steal. I thought they were going to have to give him at least 4 at that term. Fantastic move.

Good on Kap going for the bridge deal and not a long term deal at 4ish per year. He will get a nice contract after this one. Always love seeing players bet on themselves like this cause im sure he could have easily signed a 7 year deal or so at 4.5ish per

How come nothing is confirmed? this extension has been rumored for a couple days now but no confirmation?

7 year deal at 4.5 is bad for the Leafs in case he stagnates as a 40 point player.

Or a steal if he keeps on getting better and better. Those 4.5ish type deals are usually the going rate for his level and point of career.

I hope this gets confirmed soon so we can see updated cap situation for TO. Still obviously have Mitch and Andreas to sign and upgrades/signings on defense and other changes.

As of NOW, not including this rumored deal, is it 14ish in cap room?

If the leafs were in a better cap situation I'd be fine with betting on him, but they can't right now.

And yes, assuming Zaitsev is gone it'll be 15

Yeah. Not sure if that is counting Horton onto LTIR or not though. Brown will also be traded in the near future most likely.

Slowly but surely Dubas is doing well cap wise today if this contract is accurate and moving out Marleaus contract. Obviously Marner will eat up majority of that space but hey, one transaction at a time!!

They're waiting on Marner. Could be a long wait.

Comps go around 2.8m but the cap has gone up a bit. Can't complain about a bit extra if you like him and he fits in with the team.

Nylander was overpaid by 500-75, that is not slaughtering the TML. Hayes slaughtered the Flyers, Skinner robbed the Sabres... These contracts are terrible, if Nylander gets back to 60+ points per game then contract looks okay, if he pushes 70+ its a steal. Furthermore if he can actually play C then its a steal and a half.
60+ points per game is an absolute STEAL for 6.9m

This may be a dumb question, but why do they need to wait to announce the deal? Not like it's going to change anything.

If they sign kap, but then mariner gets an offer sheet that would put the Leafs just over the cap, they can’t actually sign it without ditching salary and every team would know the deadline they’re under so they’d have no leverage.

This way if market gets an offer sheet you can match it and sort out the salary/kap contract later without the hard deadline.

You can go up to 10% above the cap in the offseason.
