I figured they would take some of their younger prospects. I guess not.

I expected Bartulis and Karsums to be there. But Sprukts is, he's 22 i think!

Well this isnt final roster and as i understand, changes can be made in foresome future. Anyway, Ozolinsh is out due to his treatment (sad to hear this, but its not like we were shocked here, more like pleased that he finaly decided to do something about his problem). Karsums is a reserve, but i suppose well see him playing in Olympics. Bartulis could be too young for this, not enaugh experience in NT, but theres a slight chance he will be selected at World Champs in Riga. Irbe is great and he definately will play, Irbe is a patriot of Latvia and he will do anything in hos powers to help his team out. And its bot like theres no young players in squad. To name some:
Sprukts Janis - 1982
Redlihs Mikelis - 1984
Berzins Armands - 1983
Saviels Agris - 1982

P.S. ill post a detailed roster as the one above is simplified.

yes rananda, its been in media here for quite some while, not put loud tho, but as rumors. Its hard to speak how long but not weeks and even months... As far as we know its alcohol alone and supporters here are very supportive coz finaly he made a wise choice and asked for help.

As for Sprukts, well hes a surprise. I remember him playing in Latvian NT in 2000 WC St. Peterburg, but all i can remember is his awfull skateing skill , tho hes a huge guy and quite good with his stick. After 2000 he went aside, but last year, in Olympic qualification round i saw him again and it was a different player. Not only his skating skills got better, but he knows exactly what are he doing on ice, very mature player still in his young age.

Where is Raitis Ivanans? :biglaugh:

Ill answer to this if i may :D Well its been an issue here, and honestly a loud one. Looking form one side, hes popular, afterall he did play in 2 NHL games this season (thats a huge succes for a player in Latvia). On the other side, his main job in team is to be a man who can throw his glovs off whenever coach wants to. Latvian NT never has been a powerhouse and always relyd on quick counter attacks, mainly outskateing opponent (every year i hear Latvia is a smallest and lightes team in WC), so basicly coaches decided not to invite him yet. But lately Ivanans started to put his name on the score list so we could see him playing here soon. Personaly i would like to see him in roster.

It'll be interesting to see Sprukts. One heckuva promising player.

But there is a big hole left on the forward side

No more Zholtoks :/

Also.. This must be the best defense ever iced for team Latvia.
