Solid pick up. They really needed a steady guy back there. Now the only guy left is to trade for the LHD who can score.

The only weird thing about this is seeing Edler on the Kings versus the Canucks, but it is hard to argue with a one-year deal in most situations. In two signings, the Kings took some pressure off of both of their best players and hopefully gives Kopitar and Doughty the ability to focus on driving the offense and the team.

too many swedes is never good. swedes are a very stressed people
Norwegian jokes about Swedes:

Why did the Swede drive five times around the block before getting home? His turn signal jammed.

How do you sink a Swedish submarine? Knock.

How can you recognize Swedish toilet paper? It has instructions on every sheet.

1 year deal is the best part of this signing. Let’s see what role he fills. He scored as many goals as Maata last season.

That signing was a surprise but he fits our needs and we have another year to find a permanent solution

How can you tell someone is Swedish in the bathroom? He takes 30 minutes to read toilet paper instructions on every square.

I am good with this. I like that its a 1 year stopgap. Allows him to mentor the younger D (I dont really see Doughty as the "mentor" type), he will play #4/#5 minutes in a shutdown role which we need. Both him and Maatta off the books next year, freeing up $3.8M (just from them, never mind Carter and Brown off the books). It fills an immediate need in the proper manner. Good signing.

This sums it up pretty well.

He went from being pretty good at everything to not so good at anything simply due to age/decline.

Not someone you want matching up against top lines on a regular basis anymore, he's lost a step and it leads to a lot of blow bys and/or penalties.

However, he's still a steady, reliable vet. Ideally a #4-6 on a contender.

Yeah, I’m perfectly fine with him as a bottom pair, roughly 18 minutes a night. Maybe have him play some PP.

Good team player who will help the young guys.

One year is ideal.
