He still hasn't fixed the issues that plague Edmonton though. Stop gap goalies and committing to offense over defense. He could have gotten Markstrom and Tanev but didn't push all in. He wasted bunch more of the cheap McDrai years

Markstrom is trash and very happy we didn't get him

But the main point is true kn the failure to make great upgrades to D and goaltending

Ekholm was an amazing pick up, but he needed another one like that, plus a good goalie add

Holland gets a bad rap but honestly I think he would be a good add for Columbus. He can help stabilize things their and get them back in the right track. I just wouldn't want him around when they are trying to be competitive.

Bouchard bridge looks like a huge mistake, man. He's going to get 9.5+ at very least on his new deal. Could have had him for 4-5 years at 4-5 million if we'd gone longer term.

Holland can blame Ken Holland for not having the cap space to even consider a long term deal for Bouch. A long term deal was not even a consideration from the Oilers side because we made it impossible through terrible cap management.

It's hilarious that we actually only needed 1 year of extra space. Say Bouch got 8x7M, Holland went ahead and gave 3M of next year cap to Connor Brown's ghost. So next year Holland wasted basically the same amount of cap space as if he long term extended Bouch.

Just insane mismanagement, I can only hope he becomes GM somewhere else and we manage to be the first team to call him for trades.

A long term deal would have never been considered tbh. Bouchard (and more importantly Bouchard's agent) knew the scenario he was walking into this season. They weren't signing anything over a year or two.

And Chris McFarland. Also Jared Bednar as our AHL Coach and let them all get away. That was the problem for Jarmo. He drafted pretty well but didn’t replace his supporting cast very well.
