Jonathan Huberdeau still hasn't spoken publicly about the trade but it's been reported by David Dwork of WPLG Local 10 News, Huberdeau “isn’t particularly happy with how everything played out.”

"It is rare that a sniper and playmaker like Huberdeau is dealt in his prime, and reports indicated the 29-year-old was expecting to get a contract extension offer from the Panthers this summer. Dwork points out that despite some early, informal extension talks between Huberdeau’s camp and the Panthers, an offer never came. “The next call was the trade.”

I think it is really important to note that the reports read as if Huberdeau is not happy with the Panthers organization - not that he is unhappy with joining the Flames.

Thread title should be updated to reflect this.
Thread title has been now changed for clarity.

Why would Zito wait around for Huberdeas 9+m 8yr demand when he could trade him instead?

I find it hard to believe that Florida didn’t know what Huberdeau was looking for in a deal. Florida probably just thought that the two sides were so far apart that it was time to move on. The playoffs pretty much cemented that view.

Yep, if they had talks with Weegar why wouldn’t they have had with Hubs?

The agent was more likely asking sky high money and Zito said nope and went out and got Tkachuk for less than he could have ever gotten Hubs.

With Barkov setting the tone at 10 would have Hubs been happy to get less?

The trade was made on Friday. Its Sunday and Huberdeau has yet to come out with the usual perfunctory statement to the media that players make shortly after being traded.... you know ... "Looking forward to playing in Calgary. Its a good team. They have a great future.. blah, blah, blah.. "
I'm sure he's had a ton of interview requests.. and nada.

Might have been about term too. No one wants to pay 8 years for a near 30 year old.

Sounds kind of like going in to see your boss to ask for a raise and he/she says they will think about it and get back to you...
Then a couple of weeks later he/she fires you. I think that would surprise and shock most of us.
