How you define a split? Is it always 50/50? I hear the terms "sixty forty split" or "seventy thirty split" quite a bit (especially when it comes to splitting dessert).

If a split is always half, then how do you define half? We play 3 games in Toronto, we can earn no more than 6 points. If we leave town with 3 points, haven't we earned exactly half the available points? In other words, we've earned a split.

 Semantics. If we had lost all 3 games, we could call that a split too. 0:100

In this context, a split is assumed to mean 50:50. Yes 3 pts is half the available points. You got a split OF the available points. But you have not earned a split WITH the other team if the other team got 4 pts. It is an artifact of the NHL's variable value to a game.

I wonder, are TML claiming a split today? They did get 2 pts to our 5.
