Mason/Helle gonna do like a 60/40% split?

or is there any chance Helle gets traded? Hutch still under contract and he seems more backup-ish than Helle

I see no value in trading Hellebuyck. Hutchinson is a mediocre backup goalie. Connor Hellebuyck can use the time to gain experience and learn from Mason. It greatly decreases the pressure on Hellebuyck and Comrie to develop.

Anyone please put up his recent stats would be appreciated.

Quoting Ken Weibe's Sun article from earlier tonight...

During the course of the past four seasons, Mason helped the Flyers reach the playoffs on two occasions and posted a 2.48 goals-against average and .918 save % with 14 shutouts.

In 2009, Mason captured the Calder Trophy after going 33-20-7 with 10 shutouts, a 2.29 goals-against average and .916 save % in 61 games with the Blue Jackets.

In nine NHL seasons, Mason has gone 200-177-63, with 33 shutouts, a 2.68 goals-against average and a .911 save %, reaching the playoffs on three occasions.

Is he good enough to get us in the playoffs? Maybe. But is just getting into the playoffs are goal? Nashville just got into the playoffs but made it to the final thanks in part to Rinne. Can Mason do that? I guess this depends on what the Jets want to achieve.

Mason comes into improve on Helle's output last year.
Helle either plays the same or improves slightly and that is in place of Hutch.
Those combined easily get us into the playoffs.

Mason taking the reigns gives Hellebuyck time and likely pushes him to reach a high enough level to give the team the goalltending they need to win some rounds in the playoffs.

Outside of that we score a $%!& tonne of goals and keep the pressure off of our tenders.

If we did sign him, we could always tell Toronto they may have one Calder winner, but we have two (Tyler Myers and Steve Mason).

And what are you giving up to get a Rinne caliber goalie here? How often do they come around and are made available?

Ummm, let's be reality folks.

Steve Mason is (or soon will be) the best goalie to play for the Jets since they relocated.

Mason's career:

08-09: .930/.916 5v5/All Sitations SV%, 61 GP - 11th in NHL (5v5) - Rookie season (age 20)
09-10: .912/.901, 58 GP - 44th in NHL - Sophomore slump? Bad.
10-11: .912/.901, 54 GP - 50th in NHL - Still bad
11-12: .912/.894, 46 GP - 45th in NHL - Consistently bad 5v5 SV%. Stats suggest give up on him.
12-13: .908/.916, 20 GP - 45th - Traded to Philly midseason (lockout year, small sample)
13-14: .926/.917, 61 GP - 28th - Turning it around in Philly
14-15: .944/.928, 51 GP - 3rd - Suddenly elite
15-16: .937/.918, 54 GP - 7th - Still elite
16-17: .918/.908, 58 GP - 43rd - Suddenly bad again

.926 is about the average 5v5 SV% for starters (goalies with 5000+ minutes) over the last 5 seasons.

Awesome! With the Jets this guy is going to likely put up better numbers than he has in his career. I can't think of a better team he's played on? Philly and Columbus (when he played there) weren't exactly solid defensive teams

Postive sign. Hopefully the contract is reasonable. This will likely be the best goaltending tandem the Jets/Thrashers have had going into a season since the days of Kari Lehtonen

Last 2 years of both Mason and Helle

If these 2 guys put just similar numbers 2 years ago. This team is a people team. Less penalty of course and better PP and PK %.

They will just clap back with a "He's got the best rookie season ever"...

But for real I can't wait for next season and hopefully we get a LD as well because we are not missing the playoffs, not even a possibility at this point.

We have a Vet goalie who is better than any other goalie we have ever had, a young goalie who is great when taking a portion of the time, probable one of the best defences in the division on paper and likely one of the best Offences in the entire league... Last year we had the most injured team in the league(highly doubt that is a stat that sticks) and no true goalie(or one with experience). If healthy this team will be wicked.

Guy's a beast at 5v5 Sv% since joining Philly, 2013-2017 for goalies with a minimum 2000 (arbitrarily chosen) minutes played he's 6th in 5v5 Sv%.

As long as he rebounds from last year I'll be a happy camper!
