The Winnipeg Jets announced they have recalled forward Patrice Cormier from the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League.

Cormier, 24, has two goals in four games with St. John’s this season. Last season, he appeared in nine games with the Jets collecting three assists and seven penalty minutes. With St. John’s, he played in 61 games totaling nine goals and 26 points in 61 games.

Cormier has played in 49 NHL games over five professional seasons with 1 goal and four assists.
He was listed as a healthy scratch with Pardy and Peluso in the game versus the Avs http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20142015/RO020117.HTM I assume Kane is on LTIR

Edit: Maybe Kane is on the "Injured Reserve" list, which has less strict requirements, i.e. 7 days.

They can't go on a road trip with only 12 healthy forwards, so Cormier was called up.

Does this mean Kane isn't on the verge of returning?
Odd timing.
I may have been too hasty. There's an "Injured Reserve List" which only requires 7 days off. It doesn't allow his salary to be used for another player, but it does allow him to be replaced on the roster. Capgeek http://capgeek.com/jets currently shows Jets with 24 players on the roster, with nobody on LTIR. Kane being on "Injured Reserve" NOT NECESSARILY LONG TERM cuts the active roster down to the 23 legal max.
