After a long summer of waiting, the Winnipeg Jets are back and in action tonight against the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome in the season opener for both teams. The game time is a 9:00pm start and part of a doubleheader on Sportsnet...

While the Jets are coming off of a 2-3-1 pre-season, including a 3-2 shootout loss at home and a 5-4 loss against the Flames, they should get a big boost with the recent signing of Mark Scheifele...

and Connor Hellebuyck...

Will Nikolaj Ehlers get into the lineup? Will George Canyon yell “True North” when he sings the national anthem? Will @macmaroon actually be awake for puck drop, let alone for the entire game? These questions and more could possible be answered tonight...

It's interesting how much the narrative for the season has changed in the past 48 hours.

We would have been vacillating over whether or not Scheifele or Hellebuyck will be traded.

Now they're both signed long term and Hellebuyck is too good a goaltender to allow us to do a Chicago style tank.

All that's left now if to cheer our team and hope they make a run.

Far be it for me to tell fans what to do or who to cheer for, but I think the writing is on the wall - this Jets club is going to try and extend the cores' window of competition into the next core (which is personally what I think you should always try to do).

So those Jonesin' for a rebuild might want to re-examine what team they cheer for. I hear the Yotes, Ducks and Sharks are looking for fans
