52 years young, he scored a goal for Kladno today. In this appearance, he surpassed Gordie Howe’s 1979-80 season Hartford to become the oldest professional player ever.

And yes, this can be nitpicked because Howe took a shift in the IHL in the 1990s as a gimmick. The subject here is not gimmicks, but regular players for a professional team.

Gordie Howe scored 41 points in 80 games in the NHL, with the Whalers, in the 79/80 season at the age of 52. Although hockeyDB seems a bit behind in their stats for Jagr, it looks like JJ has 5 points in 16 games in the Czech league. Jagr is only about 1.5 months older than Howe was at the same point in their careers.

I know which accomplishment I find more impressive.

But congrats to Jagr nonetheless. It's a pretty amazing thing to do at his age.

I have absolutely no idea how the LNAH compares to the Czech League, but Brashear and Jagr have basically the same ppg.

:naughty:
LNAH is glorified men's league, semi-pro. Extraliga is a legitimate pro league, probably the 5th or 6th best or so in Europe. Michal Kempny played in it as recently as his Age 24 season and was playing in the Stanley Cup Finals a couple seasons later. Or perhaps an even easier example, David Krejci played for the Bruins in 2020-21, then in Czech League in 2021-22 and then back with the Bruins for his final year in 2022-23 and actually had 10 more points in the NHL, lol (more games, but still, he was sub-PPG in Extraliga, not like he was in a beer league).

Bit of a sad milestone considering the circumstances. Still stuck going at it despite being a complete non factor just for PR purposes.

I would say the game is slightly different now than it was in 79/80.

Ok, and Howe played against absolute pylons compared to the skill even in lower leagues today. Cool backhanded compliment, but Howe’s competition couldn’t tie Jagr’s skates.

It’s not 1980, but, below, gives some insight into the world Gordie Howe came from compared to today.
A 90 year old Jagr could likely fulfill those requirements.

It was an invitation to the Leafs 1962 training camp that listed golf as a training must and also explained what kind of shape the players should be in when they return to camp. The players needed to be able to do 20 push ups, 20 sit ups, and 30 knee bends, and must not be over 7 pounds of their playing weight.

He still has a long ways to go.

Gordie Howe came out of retirement and played a pro game at age 69 for the Detroit Vipers.

Just to nit pick. Jagr had played only 15 games this season vs Howes 63 in this last last. However, Howe did play 1 game with the Vipers when he was 69

still counts and Jagr had 4 assists in his 15 games this year.
