If the Sabres win the lottery, I’d wager they win a playoff series before the leafs.

I would trade Monahan and Gaudreau for Eichel. Maybe add a juicy pick if Buffalo takes on Lucic so the Flames can sign Hall.
Not many teams would be willing to offer to surefire 1st line players under great contracts.
Flames would have some real firepower up top:
Hall-Eichel-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangiapane
Dube-Ryan-Bennett
Phillips/Czarnik-Jankowski-Reider/Czarnik

Buffalo lines up with something like:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Olofsson

With 2 1st overall picks(both who could be better than eichel himself) and another 2nd overall pick in reinhart if they are still not better than the leafs than the team will never win anything with their current ownership.

Laf/dahlin/eichel/reinhart along with cozens/mittstadt/ristolainen/jokiharju
/oloffson should be an elite team.

He's on his third GM and third head coach, having just wrapped up only his fifth season in Buffalo. I have to guess that the constant revolving door of GMs and coaches in Buffalo doesn't necessarily mean much for Eichel, one way or the other. Eichel isn't getting all of these people fired. They are getting fired for being bad at their jobs. Eichel is complaining because they keep hiring and firing people who are bad at their jobs. Just like I'm sure Buffalo fans are more than a little sick of all this. So is Eichel.

No thanks. In any case, taking on Lucic is a "hell no". I don't care if you're offering a 1st. We have too many bad contracts. In addition, I'd rather keep Eichel. I don't really see Calgary as a great trade partner anyways. We're better off keeping our captain. He's better than Monahan.

I think it will have to hurt us deeply to get Eichel, but I would kill to see 8 years of Eichel+Tkachuk vs McDavid+Draisaitl.

My guess on what Buffalo would ask for:

Leafs: Marner & Liljegren.

Habs: Suzuki, Caulfield, Romanov, and KK.

Edmonton: McDavid & Bouchard. Realistically, Edmonton may say no and offer up Draisaitl & maybe Bouchard instead.

Boston: Pastrnak & McAvoy

Calgary: Monahan ++ (+ being Tkachuk and something else).

leafs made it that year with their 1st top three pick in 30 years and what exactly have the sabres done with what, a 1st, pair of 2nds, bunch of other top 7 picks? nothing
