It's Lou you already know whats going to happen.

Aging roster: Check
Barren Prospect Pool: Check

Lou's response: Trade prospects/Picks for aged veterans.

The only real question is what franchise will he have left worse off the Devils or the Islanders lol

Yeah, I can't imagine being an Islanders fan and wanting to keep the guy or being agnostic on him. He's an utter disaster for you guys.

We should, but Lou won't. Also, tanking for an 18% chance at a hometown player is a bad idea; we're better off hoping that he holds out on whichever team drafts him as Fox did.
Fox went the college route and was almost a UFA which gave him leverage to get to the Rangers. No player drafted #1 is going to wait years to start his career because he's a fan of a team.

Dobson
Horvat
Barzal

That's it. Those are your ONLY bargaining chips.

Honourable mention to pelech and pulock who may garner something as well.

The issue is aside from Wahlstrom, there is NOBODY on the team under the age of 25 not named Dobson that will interest anyone else based on age,
Ishakov was almost traded at the deadline for Savard btw.

I’m very happy with the job Lou has done so far. The job isn’t finished, though.

The Lee/Pageau situation needs addressing. The bottom 6 needs improvement.

A rebuild would be a very stupid move.

Their coach is Fatty Roy so they might even suck without trading anyone

That bad year with the “we were on the road” losing streak followed by multiple injuries

That would have been the prime time to re-tool

Already struggling enough that they wouldn’t have to blow up the roster entirely tk tank. Trade some of the older guys with stellar playoff reps since you just went to the ECF twice. The type of guys teams pay a premium for at the deadline

Stock up on younger depth or picks to trade for younger depth

Instead they let coach inspire the team to finishing closer to the middle than the bottom. And their long term plan seems to be wallow in mediocrity until time runs out, and hope you catch lightning in a bottle before then.

A rebuild could/should happen but Lou won't do it and by the time he's dead or moved on the assets mentioned will have devalued themselves to the point that it would be a nil return.

Not romotely seeing how the Islanders win a Dobson trade. He’s a young top pair RHD with size who drives their offense.

Unless they can’t re-sign him they should keep Dobson.

Brock Nelson is a 6’4” 210 center who’s scored 107 goals in the last 3 seasons, with 34-37 each season.

In the last 3 years, 33 players have at least 100 goals and 21 players have 107.

Teams would be interested in Nelson as a rental.

Nelson at age 32 with a 4 million it next year is an attractive rental. But as stated, Lou Lam would need to die r be forcibly ejected in to the sun before he'd allow for a rebuild

Trading Nelson and Palmieri isn’t a full rebuild, it’s just not re-signing every single guy on the team.

We have this topic come up every time with an older team. And one thing that is always true is that teams in the middle of the standings NEVER rebuild. It doesn't happen until they suck.

And I don't think the Isles should blow it up. They need to take some chances on buy low talents. There was an Isles fan interested in Laine recently and that is the exact type of player they need to give a shot to, the asset cost would be low and there isn't a long term risky contract.

Dubois is another one, though he has a risky contract. But if the Kings pay you to take him and you think Roy can push him, then go for it. People here pretend he was always a bad player and that is actually a very new thing.

I'm sure we can come up with a lot more buy-low players. Go get the next Devon Toews (instead of trading him away. Get the next Nichushkin, or Forsling, or Verhaege. Despite the HF viewpoint, there are many ways for a hockey team to get better, not just through blowing it up.

It's not trading just them. That's the thing, I was listing the lack of quality or viable assets the Isles have in the event of an actual rebuild.

I can give you 7 more years why PLD isn’t worth the risk. If LA buys him out and he’s willing to take a 1 year prove it deal at low cost but not for $8.5x8 or whatever that current mess is. That just screams terrible asset management if you’re picking up that contract.

The mini resurgence under Roy guarantees that the Isles are more likely to load up, rather than tear down
