I was thinking only about the draft position and nationality. I thought Golyshev had a good WJC but looked at his stats now and must have mixed him up with somebody else... Anyway, Yurtalkin would probably be a good value pick.
With our lack of picks (at the moment) and a year in which opinions will differ greatly after spots 1-3, then 4-10, I think you're likely right that the NYI may venture to Russia with the 3rd, 5th or 7th rounders we currently have. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised to target a guy like Kostin should they be picking 14th-23rd.
Snow's tendency to take a shot at a Russians has almost become a draft regularity. I almost gotta think they've got another overager like Urakov on their radar as well.
A lot of that may have to do with whether or not they've determined a general interest on behalf of a young Russian to make his way to North America in the next few years?
NOTE:
It's not necessarily a yearly habit, and rather meaningless overall, but I didn't like either the Cammarata or Golyshev picks when they took place (I won't go into the Song pick - that's a separate issue). Dunno... both felt premature, unwarranted and like Snow 'n co. were pulling a 'We know something no one else does' type of thing. Maybe it's just because I saw some boys on the board I personally was reallllly sold on and thought most scouts would be looking to grab at those junctures? Maybe it's because you get the idea that these were players that simply could have been had at a later juncture (always a gamble) and already have size issues that make them highly unlikely?
Kind of hope they don't make another pick before the 5th round where everyone is scrambling to figure out who the heck the guy is and why the team could possibly feel the need to take Player X at that juncture.
