There one year left at 3.2 millions. I'd take a flyer on him if we can fit him. A career year next season and you can flip him for something. One thing is sure though if the Pens can't find a taker it doesn't look god for Hoffman.

Kapanen apparently has off-ice issues. Back when Toronto was trading him, a lots of teams apparently bowed out after doing their due diligence according to the Leafs beat writers at the time.

And Pens might not have looked for a taker, they had to waive someone to activate Rutta off LTIR. Kapanen is the guy management considered the most useless.

I'd see if he clears and then try to make a trade with the Penguins. Something that might help them win some games. They don't have the cap space to add significantly, but taking back Kapanen as part of the deal would help that.

We have no reason not to, he can be a warm body for the middle-6.

We should be starting to line up trades for Dvorak/Anderson/Hoffman by the draft. The only young players I see being added to the roster next year are Farrell and RHP.
