Is it possible for Malkin to surpass Crosby's legacy

Do you see that being a realistic possibility? Malkin has 2 art rosses, 1 hart trophy. Crosby has two of them both but lacks a Conn Smythe.

Crosby has been more consistent, but Malkin's best full seasons are on par with Crosby's best full seasons.

Assuming Crosby is regressing like it seems and Malkin wins major awards a couple more times, he could very well end up being considered the best player of this generation.

Since when is Crosby regressing? He's 30 games removed from winning the Hart, Lindsay, and Art Ross (by the biggest margin since Gretzky) and is playing at roughly the same PPG as Malkin is right now.

It's possible that Malkin surpasses Crosby but unlikely. We're not even halfway through the season. Crosby could easily sweep the awards again this season, if he picks his play up.

i dont think it's likely but they're not really on different level overall, crosby is just face of the franchise and gets most opporunities, history shows that when ever crosby is out, malkin has stepped up.

All it takes is like 2 more big years with some trophies...

Crosby wasn't all that great outside first 10 games last season and only reason he won with big margin is because of injuries to Malkin, Stamkos and Tavares. This season Malkin has clearly outplayed him.

His goal scoring has definitely regressed, when shot totals and s% are both down it's a bad sign.

Don't forget about Crosby's Olympic resume. The Golden Goal is what elevated him from hockey superstar to famous athlete (any sport).

That being said, I would love to see Malkin win another Hart/Art Ross.

One goal in a stacked team and all the bad play in 2 Olympics are forgotten?

Outside of the first 10 games? Don't be ridiculous.

Crosby's Olympic resume is godawful

Aside from the Golden Goal, the Olympics are the worst hockey Crosby has ever played both times.

We're talking "legacy" here. Crosby will be remembered (for right or wrong) as the hero of 2010.

Most Americans don't know who Malkin is; a much larger cohort recognize Crosby. And that won't change unless Malkin produces something special at the Olympics.

Olympic hockey isn't real hockey. It's a joke that anybody considers the results of that tournament to matter.

Then I guess it will break your hearts that Crosby will be remembered as a savior for Canada and thus the pre-eminent player of his generation.

Not talking about the fraction of the public who are hockey afficionados, but the majority, who watch Sports Center and read Sports Illustrated.

The OP isn't asking who will be ranked higher in the HoH greatest players list, but who will have the grander "legacy". And this is my interpretation.

So it's ignorant Americans who decide this?

He was nowhere as good as in his peak.

Fella, you're trying to argue that the Art Ross and Hart Trophy winner wasn't "all that great" except for a 10 game stretch of the season. Come on.

Compared to his peak...when he was 50+ goal scorer and 120+ point producer. Why are you comparing him to others?

Uhh you brought up Malkin, Tavares and Stamkos, not me.

If you're saying Crosby is regressing based on previous seasons than apparently so are Stamkos, Malkin and Tavares since they're all on pace to have seasons significantly worse than their career bests.

Crosby has two gold medals. Malkin has 0.

That is all that matters.

Also 10 Points in 13 Olympic games is hardly terrible. 7 in 7 in 2010 and 3 in 6 in 2014.
