So, the Italian Winter Olympic Games are starting tomorrow (even if the hockey tournament starts only 5 days later).
As a quick introduction, here come some related links and pictures:

-Link to the official site of the Olympic Games (Should provide live updates on all competitions)
    http://www.torino2006.org/ENG/OlympicGames/home/index.html

-For the few here going to Torino, here is a link to estimate the time needed to move from one place to a specific destination inside the city (for example to reach the venues)
    http://www.5t.torino.it/5t/en/percorsi

-And here is a link to check (and buy) available tickets left:
    http://torino2006.ticketone.it/search.jsp;jsessionid=3FD5DBA1E7307555827ED3DBD3DB5CC3

-The link to the official site of the city of Torino:
    http://www.comune.torino.it/index_en.shtml

-A link to have a tasting of Torino:
    http://www.comune.torino.it/torinoplus/english/index.html

-And a link to the live web cam on the Olympic stadium:

Unbelievably, venues’ capacities are still unconfirmed. I’ve read on supposed-to be–reliable-sources completely different figures, going from 4.300 to 6.000 for ‘Torino Esposizioni’ and from 8.200 to 12.500 for the ‘Palasport Olimpico’ (PalaIsozaki).
My current guess is 5.800 for the first and around 11.500-12.000 for the main one.

    Now the pictures:

1* First off, an image of the city hosting the event, Torino (enlightened, the dominating Mole Antonelliana).

2* then a view from the satellite of the area that will be the centre of ice hockey world for those two weeks. The image was taken something like one month ago and Piazza d’Armi, the place in front of the Olympic Palace, was still under construction. On the left you can see the Olympic Stadium where both ceremonies will be set, on the right the aforementioned Olympic Palace.

3* the third is a view of the Olympic Palace from the beginning of Piazza d’Armi. On the right you can see the ‘Torre Maratona’ (Marathon Tower), yet to be enlightened. Behind, a foreshortening of the Olympic Stadium.

4* a rendering of the inside of the Olympic Palace, where both semifinals and finals will be played.

5* a view of the inside of the other Olympic hockey venue, the ‘Torino Esposizioni’, a temporary rink.

6* what they will be fighting for!

7* the (expensive) ticket you need to get in.

8* ‘passion lives here’, the slogan, colour and logo chosen for these Olympics. The preparations are in full swing to polish the city.

9* an image of the promo produced by the ‘Frecce tricolori’ (planes) to advertise the games (don’t know if this has any showing on the international stage).

    ENJOY the GAMES folks!! :yo:

The medals look stupid this year. They're just overglorified subway tokens.

I think they look more like giant bolts. You know, those thingymabobbers that you screw nuts into. Or is it the other way around?

Hmmmmm, that sounded pretty R-Rated, now didn't it? :innocent:

The Palasport Olimpico looks absolutely astonishing from the inside. The clear seats give it a nice "igloo" type feel, almost looking like everything is made of ice. It really is amazing.

Can't wait to see the men play in that arena.
