SO ARE WE GOOD ENOUGH TO COMPETE WITH THE BIG DOGS OR BAD ENOUGH TO COMPETE FOR BEDARD??

Just the way it goes in a long season. The Avs just lost to Chi, who then lost to Seattle after giving up 6 goals on 7 shots.

That said, even if Steve was trying to tank this year, I just can't see us out tanking Ana or Chi, especially Chicago. They are on a whole other level of suck right now.

You wouldn't know it from last night but the Blue Jackets are in the mix for finishing dead last as well.

As I've said before, people who wished the Wings were tanking this season are underestimating how far they'd have to blow the team up to be worse than the cellar dwellers.

Exactly. And what would need to have happened if Detroit tried to tank?

Lose Larkin, Hronek and Bertuzzi for magic beans in the 20+ range.
Lose progress from Seider and Raymond.
Kept Berggren in GR another year.
Signed zero FAs that were better than replacement level.
End up losing the lotto anyway and pick Will Smith 5th or 6th overall?

And with the 2023 FA class looking bad, the tank wouldn’t stop there.
2023-24 the kids come up but struggle due to lack of depth.
Probably another bottom 5 finish in a mediocre to weak draft year.

If anything, Detroit should probably have made their FA push in 2021 instead of 2022. Danault is superior to Copp and at a similar cost.

How many times have w been blown out early this and then make a valiant attempt at a comeback? Can’t Lalonde get these guys motivated. It’s part of his job
We have been humiliated by bad teams at home at least 4 times this season.
Last night at 3-0, Husso saves a sure goal.
At 4-0 Husso again makes a huge save and the refs choose not to call Hronek for one of the most obvious slashes we have seen this season.
Hronek understands he can get away with a murder so he interferes with a player on the boards. At this point it could have easily been 6-0. That was really embarrassing. The refs had to help us.
The coach had to take the timeout after 2nd or 3rd.
We have been badly embarrassed at home by bad teams several times. We have allowed more goals this season than last season at this point. And we have better defenders and goalies this season.

Just think, if we tank for long enough, we could draft a once in a lifetime generational talent capable of scoring 150 to drag the rest of our trash into a wildcard slot!

Then as a fan base we can plaster our superstar with every hateful comment we can muster. Blaming our best player for the failures of a subpar roster build. At least this is what I gather Edmonton fans are actually there for.

You might be looking at this off-season 3 to 5 years from now and finally realize that there is a more than 50% chance this team is stuck in the "mooshy-middle" purgatory, cause someone decided to go UFA shopping and not completing a rebuild properly, in a year where the talent available can make or break a team for the next 15 years.
You can't become "contenders" without elite talent and Wings barely have enough to fight for the wild card spot, even IF Casper and Edvinsson turn out well.

If we tank long enough, we could probably draft two McDavid/Draisaitl-level talents and have them on the same team.
