Mathews should also think about contract #3.

If the cba does not reduce max term contracts then the 2 options could play out like this for him. Using bobs numbers:

8 year now and 8 year on contract 3. $100-$108 million per bob. Then when he is 29 turning 30 he could get another 8 year max term deal say even at $14 million. That’s another $112 million. So for the next 16 years it could be $212 to $220 million.

If he opts for 5 now at $11 mill per its $55 million then ufa at 26 turning 27. An 8 year deal could net him $16-$17 million. That’s $128-$136 million. Total for 13 years is $183 to $191 million. Still $21 -$29 million to sign for when he is 34 turning 35. What will the market be like in 2032 for a 34 year old forward with 16 years under his belt?

That be like the 2003 draft class being free agents this summer. Some you would do a deal with others no chance.
