1st Round - 2nd Overall - C Jack Eichel - 0 - 2nd Overall - Buffalo Sabres
2nd Round - 31st Overall C/RW Jack Roslovic +6 - 25th Overall - Winnipeg Jets
2nd Round - 35th Overall - W Jeremy Bracco -26 61st Overall - Toronto Maple Leafs
3rd Round - 61st Overall - D Ryan Pilon -86 147th Overall - New York Islanders
4th Round - 91st Overall - LW Graham Knott +37 54th Overall - Chicago Blackhawks
4th Round - 104th Overall - RW Blake Speers +37 67th Overall - New Jersey Devils
5th Round - 138th Overall - W Conor Garland +15 - 123rd Overall - Arizona Coyotes
6th Round - 160th Overall - D Jake Massie +4 156th Overall - Carolina Hurricanes

Overall, I was pretty content with where my players were taken. I was ecstatic about Knott to the Blackhawks in the 2nd and Speers to the Devils in the early 3rd. Pilon took a mighty tumble and that shocked me. I expected Bracco to fall.

All in all though, I was happy with my Day 2 list. This is exactly what my list looked like starting Round 4:

Graham Knott
Gabriel Gagne
Eric Cernak
Blake Speers
Gustav Bourraman
CONOR GARLAND
DMYTRO TIMASHOV
PIUS SUTER

The Top 4 on that list were all gone by pick 67 in the NHL.

Most of my guys went a few picks to a full round later than I picked them, except for two guys:

Kevin Stenlund, who went in the second round today after I picked him in the 5th with Detroit's pick from the Ramo deal.

And Nikita Korostelev  I took him in the second, and he went in the seventh.

All of my 9 picks were drafted, so that is a positive.

For the Flames

1st Round - 8th Overall C Mathew Barzal -8 - 16th Overall - NY Islanders
3rd Round - 65th Overall G Alec Dillon - Drafted in 2014 - 150th Overall - LA Kings
3rd Round - 79th Overall F AJ Greer - +40 - 39th Overall - Colorado Avs
4th Round - 98th Overall C Nikita Pavlychev - -99 - 197th Overall - Pittsburgh Pens
4th Round - 105th Overall C David Cotton - -64 - 169th Overall - Carolina Hurricanes
5th Round - 143th Overall W Nolan Vesey - Drafted in 2014 - 158th Overall - Toronto Maple Leafs
6th Round - 159th Overall C Cameron Hughes - -6 - 165th Overall - Boston Bruins
7th Round - 186th Overall D Austin Strand - UNDRAFTED
7th Round - 190th Overall G Ryan Bednard - -16 - 206th Overall - Florida Panthers
7th Round - 198th Overall G Jake (John) Kupsky - +5 - 193rd Overall - San Jose Sharks

Barzal apparently had terrible draft day interviews, coming across as cocky and arrogant and it's coming out that he's a really odd character in general. Was seen in a hotel working out at the gym at 1am after the draft. If that drop from top 5 consideration in pre-season to top 10 prior to the draft to being passed over 3 times by the Bruins doesn't spur him on...

Greer was the big winner if NHL draft position matters. Trading my 2nd next year feels much better now since he became a top 40 pick.

Otherwise, it was pretty much as expected, happy that Pavlychev & Kupsky were drafted as that was unexpected.

Also, I can't remember the last time I drafted players taken by Pittsburgh, Boston, or the Kings. Maybe this is the first time actually.

The only regret I have is Brendan Guhle who went in the 2nd round... I had him top of my list till the last moment before submitting for the 4th round and he was taken after I picked...

For the Lightning...

1st Round - 5th Overall F Dylan Strome - +2 - 3rd Overall - Arizona Coyotes
1st Round - 6th Overall D Ivan Provorov - -1 - 7th Overall - Philadelphia Flyers
2nd Round - 46th Overall D Jacob Larsson - +19 - 27th Overall - Anaheim Ducks
3rd Round - 69th Overall F Erik Foley - -9 - 78th Overall - Winnipeg Jets
3rd Round - 89th Overall F Julius Nattinen - +30 - 59th Overall - Anaheim Ducks
4th Round - 93rd Overall F Gabriel Gagne - +57 - 36th Overall - Ottawa Senators
5th Round - 123rd Overall F Pius Suter - UNDRAFTED
5th Round - 151st Overall D Colton White - +54 - 97th Overall - New Jersey Devils
7th Round - 208th Overall D Dmitry Osipov - UNDRAFTED

Overall I'm very pleased with the results and I'm happy with where my prospects are headed. Those that were drafted at least.

Pleasantly surprised that Larsson jumped into the 1st and Nattinen to the 2nd, both to Anaheim.

Shocked that Gagne jumped to the early 2nd, especially nice to see the Senators traded up to get that pick.

Pius Suter going undrafted was unfortunate. Had I been on the ball and knew he had signed in Europe I would have avoided him. Making it a little worse is that Kevin Stenlund was next on my list and he jumped up to the 2nd round as well.

Colton White was the player I was least certain about so very happy to see him jump.

Dmitry Osipov was a fun pick with no expectations of him being drafted today so not surprised.

One more disappointment today is that Vladimir Tkachev went undrafted again after using a 3rd on him last year. KHL here we come!

For the HFNHL Buffalo Sabres:

1st Round - 11th Overall F Lawson Crouse (E) 11th Overall – Florida Panthers
2nd Round – 32nd Overall D Brandon Carlo (-5) 37th Overall – Boston Bruins
2nd Round - 48th Overall D Gabriel Carlsson (+19) 29th Overall – Columbus Blue Jackets
3rd Round – 62nd Overall F Jordan Greenway (+12) 50th Overall – Minnesota Wild
5th Round – 142nd Overall G Adam Huska (-42) 184th Overall – New York Rangers
5th Round – 148th Overall G Joren Van Pottelberghe (+38) 110th Overall – Detroit Red Wings
6th Round – 162nd Overall D Vili Saarijarvi (+89) 73rd Overall – Detroit Red Wings
7th Round – 192nd Overall D Christian Jaros (+53) 139th Overall – Ottawa Senators

Overall I was happy all of my players were drafted by NHL organizations. I was surprised the Wings drafted two of my picks (G Joren Van Pottelberghe & D Vili Saarijarvi) as early as they did but they are the Detroit Red Wings so I must have done something right. I thought I took Carlo a little early but there was no way he would have been around at the 48th overall pick so I decided to draft him at 32 and I am glad I did, he will do good things in Boston.

For the Stars:

Round one-5th overall-Dylan Strome - 3rd Overall - (+2)
(Strome and 2nd 2016 traded to Tampa for Tomas Hertl, pick 20 and Eddie Lack)
Hertl will sign a 3 year ELC soon, Lack is a cheap replacement for Bobrovsky.

Round one - 14th overall - Nick Merkley - 30th overall - (-16) Stars traded Bobrovsky for this pick....Stars have financial issues and could not afford to sign Bobrovsky to a long term deal. This move was tied to the above trade.

Round one - 20th overall - Paul Bittner - 38th overall - (-18) (wish I took C White)

Round three - 80th overall - Nicolas Roy - 96th overall - (-16)

Round six - 139th overall - Andrew Nielson - 65th overall (+74)

Round six - 154th overall - Samuel Dove-McFalls - 98th overall (+56)

Round six - 168th overall - Joseph Cecconi - 133rd overall (+35)

Round seven - 199th overall - Artem Volkov - undrafted

Round seven - 209th overall - Mikail Vorobyov - 104th overall (+105)

Stars GM is happy with 2015 draft. Hoping the scouts hit home runs with the late round picks. Nick Merkley falling to 30th overall in NHL draft shows how deep this draft class is. We find out in 4 or 5 seasons where this YEARS DRAFT CLASS ranks all time.

4th Round/92: Denis Malgin - -10 - 102nd to Florida
4th Round/109: Thomas Schemitsch - +21 - 88th to Florida
4th Round/110: Dennis Gilbert - +19 - 91st to Chicago
5th Round/125: Nathan Noel - -infinity - undrafted
5th Round/130: Samuel Blais - NHL Drafted in 2014

7th Round/185: Chase Lang - NHL Drafted in 2014
7th Round/188: Frederik Tiffels - +21 - 167th to Pittsburgh

Overall pretty happy with my draft. Kind of shocking for me to see Noel and Lizotte go undrafted, but I have faith both will end up that way eventually.

Ended up coming away with a very early 2nd, and two 3rd rounders in the NHL.

You also came away with 3 Leafs :)help:) and 2 Panthers :)handclap:). It's fun when your NHL namesake drafts the same player as you...or so I think.

Meloche went a few picks earlier in the second - and went to Colorado, where he should be a good fit with Roy. As expected, Chebykin went undrafted. With luck I'll look like a genius this time next year.

For the Canucks, we made eight selections in the 2015 HFNHL draft, but three were re-entries, leaving only five potential candidates for the 2015 NHL Draft.

1st Round - 28th Overall D Thomas Chabot - +10 - 28th overall - Senators
2nd Round - 41st Overall W Zach Senyshyn - +26 - 15th overall - Bruins
2nd Round - 58th Overall W Dennis Yan - -6 - 64th overall - Lightning
3rd Round - 88th Overall W Tobias Lindberg - 2013 NHL Draft - Ottawa
4th Round - 116th Overall D Will Borgen - +22 - 92nd overall - Sabres
4th Round - 118th Overall D John Marino - -36 - 154th overall - Oilers
6th Round - 153rd Overall F Fredrik Olofsson - 2014 NHL Draft - Chicago
6th Round - 179th Overall G Janne Juvonen - 2013 NHL Draft - Predators

Overall quite happy with how it played out. Chabot rising and going to the Senators is great, obviously, and although I wouldn't have taken Senyshyn 15th overall, and don't love that his name will forever be linked to that embarrassing Dougie Hamilton deal, the Bruins sure have lots of reasons to develop him well. Yan slipping out of the second round surprised me, but landing in Tampa, where anybody with skill has a shot, is fine. Borgen to Buffalo and Marino to the Oilers means both have opportunities in rebuilding organizations.

1st Round - 29th Overall LW Jake Debrusk +15 - 14th Overall - Boston Bruins
2nd Round - 44th Overall RW/C Christian Fischer +12 - 32nd Overall - Arizona Coyotes
3rd Round - 76th Overall G Veini Vehvilainen - ARGH - Not Drafted - NA
3rd Round - 90th Overall D Matthew Spencer +36 - 44th Overall - Tampa Bay Lightning
4th Round - 119th Overall C Kyle Platzer OA - 2013 Draftee - Edmonton Oilers
4th Round - 120th Overall RW Kevin Labanc OA - 2014 Draftee - San Jose Sharks
5th Round - 149th Overall LW Ryan Carpenter ARGH - Not Drafted - NA
6th Round - 179th Overall G Adam Werner ARGH - Not Drafted - NA

The draft started off really, REALLY well. Jake Debrusk got picked high into the first round where I picked him off at 29th overall. I was also able to steal Matthew Spencer with the last pick of the 3rd round when he got picked mid 2nd. Fischer also saw a slight bump.

But in a year where I was aiming to add more talent to my goaltending, I though Vehvilainen would be in high demand: All-Star U18 performance and good numbers against men. Not the desired size but 6-0.5 is not small either. Even his BACKUP got selected!!

Hoping Kyle Platzer and Kevin Labanc prove to be overager steals to help get that bitter taste out of my mouth. Ugh

1. D Noah Hanifin. HFNHL 4th. NHL 5th (CAR).
2. C/W Mitchell Stephens. HFNHL 38th. NHL 33rd (TB).
3. D Parker Wotherspoon. HFNHL 53rd. NHL 112th (NYI).
4. W Austin Wagner. HFNHL 64th. NHL 99th (LA).
5. C Glen Gawdin. HFNHL 94th. NHL 116th (STL).
6. W David Kase. HFNHL 124th. NHL 128th (PHI).

1.9 D Zach Werenski: R1 8OV, Columbus (+1)
2.34 C Thomas Novak: R3 85OV, Nashville (-51)
2.39 G Mackenzie Blackwood: R2 42OV, New Jersey (-3)
4.97 D Erik Černák: R2 41OV, Los Angeles (+56)
4.117 LW Brendan Warren: R3 81OV, Arizona (+36)
5.128 C Jean-Christophe Beaudin: R3 71OV, Colorado (+57)
5.129 LW Adam Marsh: R7 200OV, Detroit (-71)
7.201 D Nick Boka: R6 171OV, Minnesota (+30)
7.203: D David Henley: Undrafted

Novak was a big faller, but eventually went to Nashville in the 3rd round. Marsh fell to the 7th round, but at that point I was happy he was drafted at all, and especially to an organization like Detroit. His past off ice struggles likely pushed him down draft boards. Some big risers in Cernak, Warren, and Beaudin.

Came away with an NHL 1st, two 2nd's, three 3rd's, 6th, and a 7th. Six prospects in the top 3 rounds after only having a 1st and two 2nd round picks in the top 3 rounds. Pretty good draft to help replenish a mediocre (at best) prospect pool.
