I thought I might have had Pronger the highest (14) on my original list, but it turned out VanIslander was also a Pronger fan.

Admin note: I will release two lists/voting records per day.

VI has always been a big supporter of players from the early pre-NHL days, so I'm a little surprised that he didn't end up having the highest votes for guys like Stuart, Pulford and Grant.

I had a good chuckle when VI said tarheel sold him on Lionel Conacher, since I distinctly remembered Vi ranking him very highly when I received his list.

Overpass, you aren't including ties, i guess? Not a big deal. Nobody ranked Shore higher than second.

No, I excluded ties and only included unique highest/lowest.

So we won't have 22 lists with Bobby Orr (1) under "Players ranked highest overall", for one.

I can pretty much guarentee I had the highest vote for Stuart. Maybe Grant, but not likely for Pulford.

wow some interesting rankings on VI's list.

Especially Pronger & Lidstrom who are pretty much an era by themselves ranked so close.
The difference between Savard and Lapointe is also pretty big in his ranking , and I disagree with this.

I didn't vote, due to working insane amounts of hours lately on a project at work.

I think the most glaring thing that stands out to me on the defenseman I've watched play the game is Chara.

I would take Chara over Wilson, Murphy, Kasatanov and Langway.

I think Chara is now pushing the top 30, and will finish his career somewhere in the 22-27 range.

I was almost dead certain that I had Grant ranked highest of all lists, but we'll see what happens. In hindsight I'd have lowered Grant a bit and bumped up Stuart a great bit.

Really surprised at Lidstrom being #10. Would like to hear VanIslander's reasoning for that.

I'm waiting patiently for that one too. That's.....yeah to be honest that's borderline inexcusable.

The other one I'm curious about on this list is Lionel Conacher. #17 seems high, but I'm not as entirely dismissive of it as I am with him ranking Lidstrom at 10. I'd be a lot more interested to hear that argument.

It's not just Lidstrom in 10th that seems strange to me, it's Lidstrom under Pierre Pilote, since one of the main criticisms of Lidstrom (won his Norrises against a weak field) also applies to Pilote.

VI did sort of have a change of heart in Round 2, ranking Lidstrom over Fetisov.

Current players are a bit hard to rate, and it's not like Chara's legacy is over. I know -- I had Chara even lower than this.

Lidstrom at #10, Pronger just behind him at #12 and before Chelios.

I really want to hear the reasoning. Because imho Lidstrom is easily better than Pronger. And Chelios was everything that healthy Pronger should have been.

Conacher didn't get into the Hall of Fame until 1994. Was there some other reason (other than not good enough) that it took so long for him to make it?

I've wondered this myself. He'd probably be on the 40s on my list, but I'm at least willing to hear why VanI put him at 17, whereas I don't see a justification for Lidstrom at 10 so I really don't even know what I'd be waiting to hear in that discussion.

It is probably because he played other sports too, which made him a better hockey player. :sarcasm:
