I was too young for Whiteyball (born in 1991), but I saw highlights, knew that Herzog completely remade the team in his image with twenty-two new players in one season (including HOFers Bruce Sutter and Ozzie Smith, and very good players like Willie McGee, Vince Coleman, Todd Worrell, John Tudor, Joaquin Andujar, and many, many more. He would've won two WSs with the Cardinals, were it not for Denkinger (I'll gladly give the Twins and Kirby Puckett their due with 87; they earned it.), and he was always a gregarious, yet humble man off the field.

May Whitey rest in peace and paradise.
