This right here is where you skewed the poll to the result you want.
Without knowing what Matthews next contract will be, there is no way for anyone to reasonably pick him.
I still pick AM he is simply the better player and as for the Cap difference most people voting Hintz are assuming the best players at that salary right now not the average player at that cap rate.

Let`s take a look at advanced statistics:

Regular season 2022-2023

Hintz

TOI 17.33min/gp 73gp 37g 38a 75p +31

CF% 60.7 FF% 60.4 Ozs 65.4% Oigf 124 Oiga 54 G/60 1.7 A/60 1.8 FO% 52

Matthews

TOI 20.17min/gp 74gp 40g 45a 85p +31

CF% 60.1 FF% 61.3 Ozs 74.3% Oigf 137 Oiga 56 G/60 1.6 A/60 1.8 FO% 52.4

As you can see they are as close as 2 players can be in all other aspects than payroll. Hintz even have a better G760, so spare me with that "Matthews is a much better scorer". Dallas play their lines evenly and that is what sets Hintz`s production lower.

Then playoffs 2022-2023

Hintz

TOI 18.26min/gp 13gp 9g 10a 19p +5

CF% 63.9 FF% 64.1 Ozs 64.7% Oigf 23 Oiga 8 FO% 60.0

Matthews

TOI 22.52min/gp 11gp 5g 6a 11p +2

CF% 60.0 FF % 62.6 Ozs 74.4% Oigf 16 Oiga 8 FO% 52.9

Could have dug up even more stats, but I think you get the point? Also, in the playoffs Hintz has actually done even better when separated from Robertson. It`s JRob`s stats that took a dive. Let`s try Matthews without Marner?

I still pick AM he is simply the better player and as for the Cap difference most people voting Hintz are assuming the best players at that salary right now not the average player at that cap rate.

Nobody can seriously take Matthews for just 1 year ahead of Hintz for 8 years.

It makes absolutely no difference if Matthews is a more skilled player. The extra 7 years makes Hintz a far more valuable asset.

If by bold you mean wildly wrong.
Is it though? I'd rather have player who's performing better in playoffs than player scoring ~15-20 points more during regular season.

Same exact reason why Marner shouldn't be in any debate when talking about top wingers in the NHL.

He has one good playoff performance in 4 tries and is better than a guy with multiple Rockets, a Hart, a Ted Lindsey who is also a solid two player. This fricking website and its recency bias.
I mean Hintz has more career points in the POs than Matthews and hes only a year older.

For last season only there's a reason he won the Hart and Lindsay voted by NHL players. So yeah it was more than just Leafs fans lol
Not really. That is fools gold. Ask those voters who they would take on their team going forward. It would be pretty close to unanimous McDavid. One great season does not make a goat

Just anti-Matthews bias more than anything

Good thing I wasn't talking about going forward then lol

People have some serious recency bias, Matthews who scored 60 in 70 last season was considered by many as the equal to McDavid.

Now, he has a weak play off performance and you’d take Roope Hintz who never had a PPG season in his career to save a couple mil in cap space.

No one aside from a few Toronto fans has ever considered Matthews in McDavid tier.

I guess reading isnt one of your better skills? I just posted their underlying stats and they are essentially the same player in all category`s. Hintz just is paid WAY less until 2031. If both had the same contractvalue and -lenght, I`d take matthews, but as the situation is atm, there is no way in hell you cant consider taking Hintz if you are aware of a salary-cap and the contract-situation. If Matthews gets his 13-14M, he is paid 5M/yr more with the same stats. Hintz is a progressing player as Matthews has regressed this year. Not to talk about the playoffs... A 1C with theese stats at 8.45M for the next 8yrs is a pretty valuable commodity.

Then you don’t know hockey and shouldn’t be taken seriously in any conversation related to hockey. What a flaming hot garbage pile of a take.
Or you’re just a clown who is to lazy to actually look at REAL hockey numbers. Get a grip before spouting off about something you’re clearly wrong about

Sorry fellow bruin fan but that just ain’t true. Way to many people have said that

Yeah ok. The guy with worse career playoff stats and no individual hardware is the better player. Take your own advice.
