Thought having a more specified thread in which I can edit the OP with news and stuff would be appropriate. Maybe a mod can sticky it to keep it out of the way of other more specific hockey chatter threads.

I have so many questions about prospects.

Like this is probably a stupid question, but can we play prospects? I only ask because some teams have prospects that are in the league and others aren't there yet. I know someone here drafted Zadina and I think other non-NHL players were selected as well. So obviously a team with prospects that are in the NHL already have an inherent advantage.

For how long are these prospects going to remain prospects? Like if you draft Petterson/Dahlin/etc and they play a full season this year, are they still considered prospects after the year or do you need to replace them with new prospects?

I believe that it was established that if they met the criteria then they can count as a prospect, regardless if they play in the NHL or not.

A prospect ages out when they either reach the time they weren't drafted within the last 3 NHL drafts (if Cholowski didn't make the team this year and played in GR, he would've been too old come October 2019) or they play more than 50 games, so for example Nico Hischier played the full season in NJ last year minus whichever games he missed due to injury or illness, so he has graduated past the 50 game mark.

Prospects will count towards totals

I see a few prospects that will "age out" this season. So like if Svechnikov plays his 50 games in Carolina, Prez will need to select a new prospect this season?

And where did we land on number of keepers?

If they are eligible at season's beginning, they can play through the whole season

The managers who have 3 NHL regular playing/ 2016 draft class prospects who will age out and/ or graduate are good for the season, past the player's 50 game mark, but will have to find new prospects in next year's draft

Maybe I'll finally be able to draft Quinn Hughes :P

What happens if a bunch of these kids come over in April when college seasons are over, do we just have to put in waiver claims and hope for the best? I almost feel like we should lock waivers before that can happen.

I would suggest that once our season is over that no more add/drop moves can happen.

Prevent prospects and euro signings being acquired by just being more active throughout the summer, save those guys for the draft the following fall

Does anyone disagree with that?

So I'm guessing with 13 players being required to be dropped to meet the waiver priority, there's going to be a bit of a waiver wire bonanza to start the year due to auto draft filling rosters with vets.

Yahoo will lock the rosters after the fantasy playoffs are over. There is also a setting to lock rosters once eliminated from the playoffs/ not qualify. I thought it would easier to do the prospects based on the NA status than by games played. I deal with this slightly in a fantrax ran fantasy baseball league where we have prospects limits and call ups just like the MLB. Such a pain to deal with sometimes as theres no way actually have yahoo monitor it. but thats my two cents.
and say my score after 1 game. Holy jesus. In the two other leagues i play in it takes me 2 weeks to hit what i got just on Monday night haha

I think the scoring settings will be a talking point for the rest of this season

We can edit and refine them over the summer, because yeah in my other league this type of scoring is indicative of about 2/3 of the week being done, not the first night

I thought I'd get slaughtered, but I think my plan of drafting nothing but blueliners suddenly appears OK? We'll see if that bears out. I kind of like it, philosophically, because it feels like roster building is a little more representative of an NHL team rather than simply grabbing all the power play specialists.

It says I have 3 empty slots on my roster. is that because I have 3 players that are NA and am I able to pick up 3 more players?

I don't really like the NA slots moving forward beyond this season

My thought with the prospect aspect is that it benefits the manager a lot to have a guy playing in the NHL and is potentially a hindrance (depending on team direction) to have a guy still in junior.

Like right now @19 for president has potentially "reached" on Pettersson Tkachuk and svechnikov when s/he could have gone with veteran NHLers who will likely have a better stat line by season's end and taken 3 non NHLers and stashed them in NA slots .

It wasn't my intention with the prospect rule when I suggested it but I'm curious what others think moving forward
