Update - October 17th:
The FAQ for the Site has been updated with a new section pertaining to Copyright Infringements. This can be found here: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/faq.php?faq=vb3_board_usage#faq_copyright_infringement

One major thing to highlight - Links to illegal streams may not be posted. The forums may not be used to solicit links to streams. A notice has been posted and the Site Rules are being updated to highlight the existing rules already in place. But please adhere to this - no posting or soliciting streams for games is permitted!

Recently, there has been a great deal of understandable frustration circling around the board, however it has become a growing concern this bitterness is being directed not to individual arguments, but posters themselves through blatant call outs, passive aggression jabs or assuming sides. All of which needs to stop. While opinions will certainly differ, especially due to a new management regime, everyone is entitled to have theirs without feeling a need to constant defend themselves. This includes, but is not limited to: pro/anti-management (past or current), libellous statements or offensive terminology. Prominent examples unsourced claims of player substance abuse, locker cancers or “Dim Jim†references.

While the offseason brought a degree of leniency, we now want to quell a lot of the off topic and general bleed through into multiple threads. To that end, we have…

Canucks Managerial Thread: Discussion primary around current management, and there decisions therein. While prior trades (Kesler, Garrison, etc.) will inevitably be brought up, any lengthily debates should be funnelled to the appropriate thread.

Roster and Fantasy GM Thread: Essentially the Armchair thread, but repurposed to include overall roster discussion and lineups. For the most part debates of former Canucks shouldn’t be here. This is about our current roster and fantasizing about what trades might be worth making.

Former Canucks and Management: Any topics which pertain to previous Canucks, players and management alike. Those who wish to rehash Gillis’ success or lack thereof, for instance, can do so here. And preferably only here.

All player specific debates should be focused in their respective threads. While GDTs will be about the game in question. There will be a Table of Contents linked here shortly for easy access to all of them, among other often buried threads.

Once again, we do not aim to prevent any debates from mentioning Gillis, Kesler or whatnot, as that just isn’t important. What we want is to limit the constant back and forth so members not interested in those particular topics can avoid them at their leisure. This makes it easier on everyone, staff included, and hopefully avoid having us issue warnings and infractions.

And a refresher from last year's rules, which remain in effect.

The HFVancouver Board Specific Rules for 2014-15

As we gear up for another run at the Cup this post season, we thought that it may be helpful to elaborate on some Site Rules so that we can all enjoy the boards during this exciting time.

We really believe that HFVancouver fans are some of the most knowledgeable and passionate fans in hockey. Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and encouraged to participate in any and all discussion that they so choose. If you - at any time - feel like you need clarification on anything, please don't hesitate to PM any member of the mod team for help.

There are some points in the main site rules that are frequent occurrences on HFVancouver, and we’d like to highlight them here to ensure there’s no confusion going forward. (Please be aware that this list is not exhaustive; all site rules are always still in force.)

FLAMING - We want to make sure that our boards are a space where people can freely share their opinion without being chastised. If you find that you are unable to participate in a debate or thread without being unnecessarily derogatory or insulting, we ask that you refrain from taking part in the discussion at all. Please make use of the Ignore List feature when needed.

• Please resist the urge to make your posts personal in any way. This includes blanket statements to the tune of “anyone who agrees with (idea X) is an idiot.”
• Sarcastic or passive-aggressive remarks toward or about other posters constitute flaming. Terms like “sheep”, “fanboys”, and the like will not be tolerated.
• Remarks about or attacks on a poster based on age, intelligence level, gender or hockey experience are unnecessary and do not contribute to respectful discussion.
• Fan base bashing (either your own or another team’s fans) is not acceptable. This includes fans from other forums or websites (CDC, CalPuck, etc).
• Please report any post or thread you believe to constitute flaming, but do not reply.

TROLLING
- Posts, threads, or content copied or referenced from other areas of the site with the sole purpose of creating a dispute, demeaning other fans, or getting a rise out of our users will not be tolerated. This rule applies to Canucks fans as much as it applies to fans of other teams.

• If you only come to the boards to make posts that are deliberately inflammatory, that is considered trolling. Please find more creative and varied ways to contribute to the discussions. For example, constantly posting “we suck, blow it up” in the GDTs would fall under this rule. If you're only going to show up when the team is losing and remind everyone how right you are, it will be considered trolling.
• You are welcome to venture to other team boards and partake in discussions with other fans given that they respect both those fans and the rules. Be mindful of the comments you make whilst you are there - venturing to another team's board solely to be critical or antagonistic is trolling and is not permitted.
• Alternately, fans of other teams are allowed to come to HFVancouver and partake in discussions with us given that they respect the rules. The presence of another team's fan merely reading our threads does not fall under trolling.
• Please report any post or thread you believe to constitute trolling, but do not reply.

SPAMMING - A reasonable amount of wiggle room will be afforded to users who post in pre-game, game-day, and post-game threads as game events occur in real time, but elsewhere on the board, please avoid posts that do not add to the discussion.

• Statements like “woot woot”, “I agree”, “nope”, posts that are just emoticons or posts that contain only asterisks are not substantial enough on their own to merit a post.
• Users are permitted to reply to partial or highlighted quotes, but please do not alter or edit quotes by other posters to change their original meaning.
• Particularly controversial topic discussion such as management and coaching should be kept to their respective threads. For example, discussing game decisions in a GDT is fine but broader coaching discussion is not.
• Please make every effort to title new threads as clearly and succinctly as possible to help us stop the flow of duplicate posts and threads.

MODERATOR ABUSE AND PLAYING THE ROLE OF MODERATOR
- The HFVancouver moderator team is made up of volunteers who strive to ensure the board is an inclusive and user-friendly environment to discuss our favourite team. A large part of this objective involves enforcing site and forum-specific rules and removing users who are unwilling or unable to comply with the guidelines agreed to by everyone. Moderators have judicial discretion in how the site rules are being interpreted.

• You are not a moderator, so don’t act like one in your posts. If you are interested in joining the Moderator Team, please PM Mr. Canucklehead.
• If you believe a thread or post violates the site rules, your first and only action should be to click the report button and provide a detailed explanation of why you believe the item you’re reporting is inappropriate. Reporting a post may result in actions on the board by moderators from other areas of the site. All decisions made by global moderators, moderator supervisors, or site administrators are to be respected in the same fashion as if our local moderating team had made them.
• Editorial commentary on the value of threads or posts constitutes spam and will be removed.
• If you don’t like a thread or post but it does not otherwise violate the rules, your best course of action is simply not to reply to it. You have the ability to ignore threads and posters, but discussing ignore functions in public posts is not permitted.
• If you disagree with any action taken by a moderator, please let us know POLITELY in a private message or by email only. Referencing moderator action in a public post is considered moderator abuse.
• Attacking or flaming a moderator in private messages or email is subject to citations for moderator abuse. Please be respectful and considerate. Profanity and abusive conduct of any kind toward moderators is not tolerated.
• If your thread or post was moved, closed, edited, or removed, there was a good reason for it, and moderators are not required to provide a public explanation. Do not re-post the content that was moderated.

THREAD LENGTH - Threads should not exceed 1000 posts in order to permit the site to run smoothly. Moderators will make every attempt to create new threads when the 1000-post threshold is reached, but if you notice a thread has gone beyond this mark, please report it to us. GDTs will be allowed to overflow depending on the amount of time left in the game.

SUGGESTIONS - The moderator team is always open to feedback from any member of our community about how to make the experience on our board better. If you have any questions, comments, ideas, or concerns, please let any one of us know in a private message.

Enjoy the boards and most importantly...

Recently, tank discussion has become increasingly popular. While we will not moderate opinions, people need to be mindful others do not necessarily share these views, nor the belief tanking is effective in and of itself. This topic is inherently subjective-- with neither side wrong. We now have a thread specifically for tanking to avoid threads being inundated with the same rhetoric. Keep the discussion there, as it will be treated as spam elsewhere.

Giving the gears to other Canucks fan communities (i.e., canucks.com, r/canucks) for their differing philosophies is a no-go. I don't want to catch you in the act.
