I'm torn on this one. It's between McLeod, Lavoie, and Savoie for me. McLeod is the safest, Savoie has the most upside, and Lavoie falls somewhere in the middle.

Can someone who watched Lavoie in the AHL last year tell me how he progressed?

The rest of his game has a ways to go, but his offensive instincts and shot are NHL ready - dare I say even good for NHL standards.

Being a big boy will help him as well. He needs to work on his dirty work and physicality.

How do most people vote on these?

Readiness vs Potential?

I tend to lean more toward Potential myself.

I tend to do that but went with McLeod as he’s a reasonable mix of both (was thinking of voting for Konovalov). McLeod has a decent floor but could also top out as a great 3C

For me it’s readiness hence why I’ve been voting McLoed since Poll #1.

Potential doesn’t mean shit until your ready to use it.

You can only spend money you now have not money you think you might have later.

I try to do a holistic approach.

For example last poll I was debating between Xavier and McLeod. Xavier has the higher potential but clearly quite far away. McLeod while ready now, is likely a 4C next year. Once I took into account that I believe McLeod could be 15 goal 3C eventually, I felt his readiness + potential to grow made him a better prospect right now then Xavier's potential only.

I understand where you are coming from but you could also say that McLeod hasnt really done anything either. You see glimmers of the speed and size but he also didnt get much accomplished in his time up last year.

Readiness. Every 7th round pick has limitless potential and yet most first round picks don't make the nhl without that development to take them to the nhl level.

Edit: McLeod has NHL speed and solid positioning. Looked very good last year. Between his age and experience he is tracking very well to be "at least" a good nhl fourth liner. He needs his offense to catch up to his feet.

Yes, I thought McLeod's positioning in the Jets series was excellent. Finishing isn't a big strength (at least yet) but when you are consistently in the right spot then good things will follow.

I think his offence will be better with better line mates. Kind of difficult for anyone to produce much at all with the wingers he had (for the most part, at least)
