Hey gang, I hope everyone is enjoying our first offseason in which we don’t suck.

It's that point in the offseason where the board winds down and there isn't too much to talk about, so it's perfect timing for the annual prospect ranking polls. I've ran it the last three years and I've had a blast doing it so I’m really excited to run it a again this year.

First off thanks to Zaddy for letting me take over. I usually wait a little longer… He got the jump on me. So first off thanks to him.

Like last year I'm going to use HF's prospect criteria, which is under 65 NHL games played and under the age of 26 as of the season starting. So that means that Drake Caggiula and Matt Benning have graduated. I will also be adding Anton Slepyshev (64 GP) to the graduated list as I and I'm assuming most on here, don't consider him a prospect anymore. Guys that are too old include Mitch Callahan, Yohann Auvitu and Edward Pasquale. Guys like Laurent Brossoit, Jujhar Khaira, Keegan Lowe, Ty Rattie, Brian Ferlin and Grayson Downing are still eligible. Just like last year I will be excluding guys on AHL deals so Josh Currie, Scott Allen, Evan Polei, Chad Butcher, David Gust, Zach O’Brien, Jaedon Descheneau and Evan Campbell are not eligible.

I will pick up where Zaddy left off. We will go to poll #3. Jesse Puljujarvi will receive 100% of the vote in poll #1. Kailer Yamamoto wins poll #2 with 57.67% of the vote. Last year a few people mentioned that they wanted more time to vote so instead on 24 hours the polls will stay up for 48 hours.

Poll #3 will go up Monday.

Here's the list of eligible prospects:
ETHAN BEAR
TYLER BENSON
FILIP BERGLUND
BEN BETKER

some are likely gone after this AHL season (Christoffer, Chase, Platzer), some likely won't be re-upped for this season (Muir, Yakimov), and some are career AHLers (Rattie, Simpson, Lowe). so do we still have 20 guys who can be considered prospects?

Is ty rattie a prospect?

If im using my past criteria? Yes. I consider him an AHL vet, but based off the criteria he's eligible. I don't expect him to get votes. I'll also throw this out there, Rattie is a year younger than Joey LaLeggia, who I and I assume many on here still consider a prospect.

Don't sleep on Greg Chase. Very impressive down the stretch for the Condors. The rest... I somewhat agree with although we could see Simpson have a Davidson-esque emergence.

To answer your 2nd question, by my count we have 31 eligible prospects not listed in your post.

This is the deepest our pool has been in a long time. There will surely be a prospect or two outside of the top 20 that I will really like.

Deep does not mean viable or good or will get a cup off coffee in the NHL.

It is fun rereading previous threads like this and some of the comments made

Don't mind our top 5,i actually think it's quite good. We have ok depth with some interesting picks but nothing to write home about, league average

I'm a bigger fan of top end vs depth

I have the same top 5, i'm not as high on Bear as most, I can't see him transitioning well, but can still see him being a third pair PP specialist some day.

I like em too, Im high on Ellis. Goalies are so voodoo tho, but atleast they are posting good numbers in their respective leagues

Prospect I am highest on despite lack of production is Niemalianen (sp). I think he can really shock people next year and enter the top 5

Well the next three skaters that go off the board are Jones Bear and Benson, but with Brossoit eligible I wonder where he fits in with that bunch, I mean like he's already on that team and done well at every level, so I'm thinking #3 imo

Yeah, it was too bad he didn't perform as expected after the promising showing he had last year at the rookie tournament. He's a big guy that can move though, so that should be able to afford him opportunities as he continues to develop.

As for the goalies, I am high on Ellis and Wells. I hope Wells pans out, he seems to have elite level potential.
