(HFNHLAP) - Despite it being the middle of summer on the best coast, the HFNHL Ducks are in the news. Fresh off the water, GM Larsen acknowledged that there have been some trade discussions surround team Captain Jonathan Toews, assistant captain Steven Stamkos and PK and faceoffs winner extrodinare Jay McClement.

He was adamant that they are not being shopped as a cost cutting measure. The team intends to be at the cap or just under for this season. The team is also in the mix for UFA forwards Alex Burrows and Jarome Iginla.

The speculation is that if either of Burrows or Iginla signs with the Ducks, then McClement would likely be moved this summer for a draft pick. This paper speculates it would be in the fourth or fifth round variety.

Regarding Toews and Stamkos we speculate that it is 80/20 that both will remain Ducks for the upcoming season. If either one is traded it would be during the summer and not during the season as the team wants to have good chemistry for another playoff push.

If either one does get moved, a source says that the price would have a center coming back, younger NHL talent, strong prospects and or picks. In the right deal, the team would take on an anchor contract to make the dollars work if the younger talent etc is worth doing that.

The offseason has also seen some retooling following the disappointing first round upset at the hands of Edmonton and the expansion draft. Out is Rick Nash and Mike Fisher who were great Ducks. In came Milan Lucic, Dion Phaneuf, Marcus Kruger and Lance Bouma. The team maintains a very strong Defense on the blue line and in the bottom six. The team also resigned key free agents Jonathan Quick, Andrei Markov, Zach Kassian, Adam Lowry and David Schlemko amongst others.

Time will tell what the rest of the summer holds for the HFNHL Ducks.
