Looking at our top 6 forwards

Mikita
Bossy

Taylor

Richard
Firsov

Bentley
Iginla

Gilbert
Leclair

Olmstead

Prentice
Mosienko

Rough fudge just to kick things off, but it's clear you have the better two forwards, but looking at our top sixes as a whole I think it's far closer.

I think Bentley trends closer to the Richard/Firsov territory but fair enough.

Honestly, I'd bump Bossy down to the Taylor tier. Mikita is in the 10-20 GOAT range, and I really don't see Bossy anywhere close to that range. He's more of a 30-40 GOAT, which is the same range I'd put Taylor in.

Compairing our top 4D

Gadsby
Clapper

Quackenbush
Langway

Mantha
Flaman
Stapleton

Patrick

For two pretty top heavy teams we have comparable D in strength, my top pair is better but not by tons while your second pair is better.

Just to touch on goalies Vezina vs Parent I think I have the clear goaltending advantage it's not giant but it's still large enough to be a difference maker IMO

Your third line is built purely to shut down a unit, I assume with last change you'll staple them to my top unit?

I bring this up because I think there's a pretty sizable offensive depth mismatch. My shut down center in Richard is perfectly competent offensively and will be much more of a threat offensively compared to Carbonneau.

The direct player comparisons are nice, but how about some talk from each GM about how their team will beat the other? How will you counter your opponent's strengths? How will you expose their weaknesses? Etc.

EDIT: RB started to do it in post #10

Sorry just got internet again.

I'm curious to hear who will shut down Mikita-Bossy?

Vezina is better than Parent but Bernie's playoff resume makes it pretty close.

Defensively I like my depth better but I agree Clapper and Gadsby are prob the two best. I feel pretty comfortable shutting down that top line with my elite defensive line and while Richard is solid, I feel I could match Mikita's line against theirs and control the puck.

In an ideal world Richard's line will go against Mikita's

I like Richard shadowing Mikita and I think Prentice as a speedy shadow will be effective in managing Bossy.

Your third is an absolute no show offensively, so if they'll be out there for ~20 minutes sure you'll shut down my top line (maybe) but going that long without any offense to speak of will be tough. I think a pure shutdown line is useful against a one line team. But with Taylor, Richard and Bowie down the middle this is clearly not the case.

Your second line is 2/3 great, but is Mosienko really a second liner in a draft this size? I get the proven chemistry angle but I'm honestly not afraid of that line. Heck even Bentley has great numbers on paper but has a giant war sized asterisk next to his big years.

Olmstead was great but he was never "the guy" on his line and your team is going to lean heavily on your second line for offence this series and I just don't see it.

I have three lines that are competent in their own ends and dynamic offensively

I don't know how to make this comparison but is Parent that good in the playoffs to close the gulf between them?

Vezina in NHA playoffs and cup finals GAA dropped 0.339
Vezina in NHL playoffs GAA dropped 0.59

Parent in NHL playoffs GAA went up by 0.01

Like if someone can explain to me if I'm missing something but I still think I have a sizable advantage in net still.

I have better offensive depth at forward
You have the stronger defensive line
I have the better top pairing
You have better defensive depth
I have better goaltending
I have better coaching

My D matching up isn't a massive priority for me, I think either of my top 2 pairs will be excellent against either of your top 2 lines

They all have size and are tough as nails and will not be intimidated by Olmstead and Leclair down low but they're all decent enough skaters to handle your speedier not coke machine forwards

Just looking at the offensive firepower

Taylor, Iginla, Firsov, Richard, Gilbert, Bowie

vs

Mikta, Bossy, Leclair, Bentley, Olmstead, McGee

The offensive depth of my top 9 cannot be stated enough. 3 lines built to score and be competent in their own end, you have 2 in your top 9 and then your spare parts line

Without a minute chart do you plan your checking line to spend 20 minutes on the ice against my top line?
