Figured I'd give this a shot here. Have a bunch of HD recorded hockey games sitting on a DVR box that I wanna move over to my laptop/and or external hard drive.

AFAIK, the only solution would be to buy a video capture device and manually playback each game all the way through while it records the video live. The drives in the DVR box and any DVR box for that matter contain proprietary file systems which essentially 'encrypt' recordings to deter piracy and all that (at least, that's my understanding). I read that if you take the drive out of the DVR and put it into a PC, it will just format it automatically and thus erase the recordings.

I have both a laptop/PC I could use. There's all different types of devices like internal ones that slot into PCI or external dongles. Most are tailored or marketed for recording gaming.

Any recommendations? Has anyone here used one of these devices to solve a problem similar to mine?
