Rome was not built in a day

So if both sides keep that in mind .. I think personally they are attempting too many things at the very start .. Grow into them over the time of this CBA. Rather then triggers that pick one or the other have triggers that set various new mutually agreed upon issues into place as the market dictates .

Define the objectives first ..

1) You need a Owner Partnership first for Revenue Sharing among teams to stabilize them and stop the bleeding.

2) You need a system that has the ability to force owners to open the books and an independent 3rd party source audit/auditors agreed on and accepted by both sides to build trust..

3) You need to find a method to bring Big Market teams Salaries down and Small Market Salaries up ..to work towards salary parity.

4) You need to correct the current market Salaries bringing them lower and in line with the current market..

5) You need to find a way to make the players partners in the business eventually after trust has been established, and market stabilized ..

6) You needed to address issue like Arbitration, RFA Qualifying and UFA in the system that is fair and workable from both sides .

7) You need to have plans in place to recover from the lockout fallout from fans with decreased revenue for years almost assured ..

8) You need to test Bettman's theory that some of these Small or Non Hockey markets can survive on their own..

9) You need to show the plan to achieve a Big National TV contract.. Basically making Bettman's reveal his HOW DOES HE PLAN TO GROW THE GAME THEORY ..as it relates to this CBA .. You just can't take current money from Players now give it to owners that originally came from the fans ..and say that fixes the long-term problem. because it doesn't, that is just as bad as NHLPA proposal that does not address the systemic problems ..You basically need to find more fans to share more money, not only methods to divide up a shrinking Revenue Pie.

10)You need to find Parity not only in theory of equal Salaries but also equal quality on the ice .. So all teams are competitive .. The NYR proved hat $$$ does not equal success and so did teams like Calgary with their Playoff performance.

11) You need to improve the game finding ways to eliminate the trap systems, and increase the entertainment value and put the oweness' on the players to generate offense not coaches to stagnate and suffocate it ..

12) You need to find ways to make this up to the fans for this mess that will not leave permanent are unrecoverable damage from the lockout

etc etc etc ..

I believe that you just can't fix everything by tomorrow and have both sides sign off and be happy on a New CBA .. This needs to be a 5-6 year CBA that phases in these objectives over the time of the CBA as certain goals and benchmarks are reached and most importantly trust is built on both sides.

The GOAL

Is to create and grow the NHL throughout North America. You need to create a market for players to be happy in and owners to make profit across all 30 teams in.

You need to be consider the Game for the sake of the Fans in all this as they are the ones that pay the bills on both sides.

This will require both sides working together to solve and address the issues that exist on both sides for the betterment of the game and not this polar opposite nonsense we have now, that services little to no purpose but alienated all parties involved further ..

You need an NHL were all 3 partners Players, Owners and Fans are happy .. IMO ..

and

If the current negotiating Members and parties involved can't accomplish that by putting aside their silly petty differences . then they need to be replaced with people that can for the good of the game ..

Great post messenger, but it's never been about what's good for the game...it's all about business, and that is what makes this all very sad...The people in positions of power are not smart enough to have been able to figure it all out, so it's time for some sort of major changes at the top, start with Gary and Bob, and their merry band of windbags, and get some people in control that have an emotional attachment to the game so that when this stuff goes down, business will have to conducted in good faith on BOTH sides, and hockey people not LAWYERS will make the decisions for the good of the game, and for the FANS!!!

1.How do we make more money.

2.How do I get most of it.

3.How do I blame the other for it.

4.How do I make more later.

daly on fan 960-no way can you judge the small markets because of the flawed system that has been in place for the last few years--believes can be a healthy 30 team league with the right system--does not understand why the players will not negotiate a deal that will get them back on the ice---will not compromise principles to just get the game back on the ice---replacements will have to be considered by owners along with crossovers---will not comment on player dissension----bottom line - daly is doing interviews and not meeting with the union at 2:20est--i am not optimistic---espn guy thinks the NHL will not be back and predicts a 12 team league with team s in hockey hotbeds but this guy is just a standard espn desk jockey and not a hockey guy--despite spots of optimism i am pretty much convinced the NHL is going to implement their own system no matter how long it takes and regardless of the court battles they may have to fight-they are going to try to fix this their way and how can you blame them they own the teams and put up the investment and have taken the losses--when the smoke clears the players that don't cross over are going to be the biggest losers, they have pretty much zero support from anyone except larry brooks and spector.

Thanks

It just goes to show how far off both sides are in the purpose of this lockout that they have completely lost site of what they are really fighting for IMO ...

Bettman could have taken the NHPA proposal and said Bob your system does not work because it does not address Parity which a common goal of the NHL so that all teams have an equal and fair chance at the cup each and ever year..

I need that in place to secure my $500 million dollar TV deal ..without it the TV station says they want not part of broadcasting the NHL if the outcome of games is known 85% of the time because of the imbalance of team Salaries before the open faceoff is taken ..

that did not take the mud slinging that resulted because the NHL thought and believes that the NHLPA is a short term gain and long term loss proposal ..

If Goodenow had to modifiy his Proposal to address Bettman's parity demand then he would have to move away from a luxury system on his own or put real teeth into it to make it act like a hard cap ..

How does the NHLPA plan to address this??

and so on and so on etc ..
