Ovechkin 08 vs Matthews 22
Ovechkin 09 vs Malkin 12
Sedin 10 vs Draisaitl 20
Perry 11 vs McDavid 21
Ovechkin 13 vs McDavid 23

I've decided to change some of the matchups so the 1st round isn't too top-heavy. There should still be some interesting faceoffs but I wanna make sure the tourney doesn't lose too much steam in Round 2.

Kanes gap in scoring is far more impressive than voters getting blinded by +/-. Forsberg was top 4 for the Selke about as much as Gaudreau or Tkachuk should have been in '22...

Forsberg was a better all-around player, but Kane's season is probably better offensively.

HockeyReference gives him 52 adjusted goals and 119 adjusted points for 2016 and gives Forsberg 33 adjusted goals and 118 adjusted points for 2003. Each player had 106 actual points. Kane had 46 goals (second most in the NHL) and Forsberg had 29 (out of the top 20 in goals).

Kane had wider gaps over his competitors in the Art Ross race. He played all 82 games while Forsberg played 75.

It's really a question of whether Forsberg's superior defensive play and physicality offset the differences in goal scoring and point production relative to peers.

It’s obviously Forsberg here, he was a better player and had a better season. Not much more to it really

I think Forsberg was the better player and don’t really have any reservations about that fact. Kane arguably had a better season due to playing in all the games and being ahead of the field by a larger margin

Forsberg is the better player - that's not in question, but I don't think this peak season of his is really representative of his absolute best. I think Kane's season is slightly better.

It probably should be. Give him 1200-1300+ career games and some of the shine probably comes off as the holes in his career aren't supplemented with imaginary numbers.

Sure except for the people that watched foppa he literally tilted the ice out there when he played in his career.

People go on and on about joe Sakic but their overlapping careers with the Avs points to Foppa being the "better" player when healthy.

Kane doesn't much to the table except scoring.

Forsberg spent 12s a night on the PK that season. His defensive aura at that stage of his career was an echo of a shadow of his earlier years.
Foppa tilted the ice when he was out there at ES with this line 94 ESGF and 42 ESGA and Joe Sakic only played in 58 games that year so teams could load up on Joe.

Also Kane was playing a lot with the rookie Bread and was being heavily sheltered in offensive zone starts at 68.5%.

To me the telling point of how good Foppa was that on the road his line was this when other teams could match him up.

37-15-35-50 +28) and at home 38-14-42-56 (+24)

Kane had equally good splits offensively except he was -1 on the road and plus 18 at home.
